Celebrate the farming history of Cantigny Park on July 3rd. Cantigny's very own chef, John Scieszka, will demonstrate sausage making and turkey smoking based on ideas gleaned from "Day by Day on the Farm" by Frank Ridgeway. This pamphlet was published by the Chicago Tribune in 1937 and compiled columns from the newspaper. Chef John will showcase modern sausage making and turkey smoking and we'll be providing recipe cards with the historic instructions plus cards for Chef John's recipes.
Demonstrations will be at 11 am (sausage) and 12:30 pm (smoked turkey) and will last 1/2 hour each. Sausage and turkey will be featured foods for sale at the vendor booth, too.
The entire Farm Day program runs from 10 am to 3 pm. Visitors will get to meet local farm animals up close and in person, including a dairy goat, chickens, meat rabbits, a miniature horse, and sheep. (Courtesy DuPage County 4H) Hands on activities for kids include cranking an ice cream freezer, making butter, "bean babies" --a seed sprouting craft, exploring wool from sheep to shawl, and horse themed activities. You can also take a hay ride through the park.
Admission to Cantigny Park is free from July 1st to July 5th as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration.
