    Dear Friends~

A few of my favorite things would have to be Peking Duck, for obvious reasons, and Sherie Escobar. Sherie was our team leader when I ran the half marathon in 2006. Sherie is a warm, caring and compassionate woman married to one helluva lucky guy, Ruben. Although I learned my lesson on on the first try, Sherie is a little slower on the uptick...this is her third year running and she and Ruben are running the full marathon. They are participating in the AIDS foundation of Chicago training program. In order to participate in the training program, participants are required to raise donations, I believe Sherie and Ruben have a goal of $2000 by mid-July. (see link below)

Yet another one of my favorite things (some may even call him a decent person) is Gary Wiviott. The founding father of http://www.LTHFORUM.com, has graciously offered to help me organize (and help plan the menu) for a fundraiser dinner at Sun Wah BBQ House in Uptown to benefit Sherie and Ruben's Training program. For those of you that have only heard stories of LTH dinners from my past life, this will be a real treat...Sun Wah will go all out and you will have the opportunity to try many things you may not have had the opportunity to try before. Although, quite frankly, not much other than a mention of Peking Duck from Sun Wah is necessary to draw a crowd.

The food will be great, the cause is certainly noble and the company...knowing my friends... will be just delightful. Please join us at Sun Wah BBQ on Wednesday, June 25th at 6:30p.m. The cost is a $50 donation to the Chicago AIDS Foundation. If you pay by check, you will be sure to get on their mailing list, pay by cash and I will provide a suitable receipt.

[Edit] Approximately half of the donation will cover costs and the other half will be donated to the Chicago AIDS Foundation for Sherie and Ruben's account. The $50 cost must be paid at the event, not online.

Please RSVP by Tuesday evening (June 24) as Peking Duck takes time to prepare. ONLY attendees need to respond, a response is not necessary if you cannot make this event.

Sounds like a great meal for a great cause. Put me down for 3 total attendees, tentatively. If it turns out that we can't make it, I'm still in for the full donation.

    Thanks!

WOW  That is very generous.

And, it reminds me that I need to add that several of my LTH friends, with their generous donations, helped make my 2006 fundraising effort a breeze.

Peter, The duck is served in three courses. Steamed buns with duck skin, slight variation as they leave a bit of duck flesh on the skin, duck fried rice, duck soup with veg and tofu. Sun Wah also serves the duck legs, wings and drumettes separate so you can get your caveman on. Enjoy,Gary

    Dave,

Terrific, looking forward to seeing you and Melissa!

Sun Wah has beer available, no hard liquor I am aware of and if there is wine I'm guessing it's of the Plum variety.

Please note beer is a separate cost and not included in the price of dinner.

    Enjoy,

    LTH,

Wonderful evening at Sun Wah, Peking Duck, steamed sole and soft shell crab, to name a few, were delicious. The newcomers to non Americanized Chinese food are already planning a return visit. More importantly the meal raised money for Ruben and Sherie's AIDS Foundation Run.

Thanks go to Peter Daane, the man has a streak of goodness a mile wide, and Kelly Cheng of Sun Wah for providing a lovely meal at a price point where the majority of the contributions went directly to the AIDS Foundation.

    I've learned from the master!

Surely one of the great benefits of LTH is being around so many people that have been generous with their time and money, not just for each other, but for those in need. The dinners at Inspiration corporation, Salvation Army and St. Leonard's are obvious...but the "lend a helping hand" attitude of several members in many ways makes this a community that one can feel proud about being a part of.

Sorry... not much time to write today as work is calling.

My thanks to Gary Wiviott and Kelly Cheng for making the arrangements. A great meal at a great price brought together some of the best people from many parts of my life and several from this board.

Of the twenty souls that enjoyed the duck last night, 18 contributed to the Chicago AIDS Foundation on behalf of the marathon training program and the other two will running in the July and August heat

We managed to raise $450 for the cause. That is a preliminary count, as a few people who became aware of the event and could not make it Wednesday evening have said they will make contributions later.

Again, my thanks to those that participated.

    Regards,
    Peter
