non microbrew - beer restaurant

Looking for a restaurant that has a large beer selection (non microbrew) in the burbs.

Yard House in Glenview. I'll keep my snobish comments to myself on this one.

Western burbs - Bavarian Lodge in Lisle.

What do you mean by "non microbrew?" Do you mean a tap or bottle list that looks like this?

with maybe a Leinenkugel's and a Sam Adams thrown in for a little variety?

I glossed over the fact that it said non-micro and read it as non-macro, thinking one wouldn't need to ask where to find macros in the burbs. Oops.

Good point on what exactly are they looking for if non-micro is truly what they want.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say that bisque may be looking for a restaurant that serves lots of beers that's NOT of the Rock Bottom Brewery or RAM variety.

If you're right, then I'd second Yard House. But we need more info from bisque about what's being sought out.

Wimp - Bavarian Haus has some Bell's listed. How is that possible with the distrib issues?

Bell's is now marketing in Illinois under a new name, Kalamazoo Brewing. Larry Bell is attempting to skirt the legalities associatied with the distributor laws by branding the beer under a different name.

It's not Bell's, but it is. (wink, wink)

Kalamazoo Royal Amber = Bell's Amber Ale
Kalamazoo Wheat (lovingly called Fauxberon ) = Bell's Oberon
Kalamazoo Hopsolution = Bell's IPA or Hop Slam (can't remember which)

They don't taste exactly the same as the original Bell's version, but they are all very close and taste darn good.

Bell’s “Fauxberon” (Bell’s Unfiltered Summer Wheat Ale, 5.8%)

You'll notice from the name that this is the faux-Oberon variety that is actually distributed under the Kalamazoo label, not Bell's. I still order it as Bell's and obviously the folk's at Bavarian House do too.

Sorry to digress, but I will have to disagree with Eric that Hopsoulution is like either Two Hearted Ale or HopSlam. Hopsoulution is an entirely different, though tasty, beast brewed with a unique Hop (Smargd, maybe?) That gives it a very different profile than the the two Bell's products.

This is true. The other beers also have a slightly different recipe than their Bell's counterpart. Hopsolution is completely different from HopSlam because it's using 100% German hops.

Not to continue this digression too much, but as I've said earlier, I did not think Kalamazoo's Wheat beer was anything like Bell's Oberon. The amber is okay, though I didn't think their Hopsolution was distinctive at all (admittedly, this was based off a 3oz. sample).

No, my taste for Bell's will only get quenched when I pick up the real stuff on the way back from visiting the Three Floyd's brewpub (it's no wonder I'm always so keen to get down there so often).

As for the matter at hand, what about Hop Haus? I don't think their beers are terribly micro-ish. Or, shoot, why not Bennigan's?

(this may be the only time, ever, that I advocate Bennigan's, but if you want macro's...)

"in the burbs"? Are you as open to Tinley Park as you are to Libertyville and St. Charles? Somehow I doubt it. I suggest thinking about how you can compose a post with something more useful than this. Maybe I'm just bitter because another of your one-liner questions led me to participate way too much in one of LTH's most unfortunate threads.
