Mariscos La Palapa?

As we took a roundabout drive to Bacchanalia yesterday, we passed a restaurant called La Palapa (or Mariscos La Palapa) at the interestion of Damen, Archer & 34th Street. It's pretty easy to spot...it's the place with the lifesize shark on the roof. (Flickr has a picture here.)

I'm all about the Mexican seafood spots--and know that many others on this board feel the same way--so I immediately searched LTH when I got home, and was shocked to find not a single mention of this place. I'll certainly take one for the team, if necessary, but I'm curious to know whether anyone else has tried this place. Anyone?

I think they had a blurb about this place in Time Out or Chicago Mag. As I recall-the blurb didn't say much. When I have passed by (during lunch time) I've never seen any cars parked there. I think it used to be a tamal joint. I realize this isn't the most useful post...(Taking one for the team at a seafood-based place is a noble act indeed.)

I wrote that blurb for Time Out. It's a more informal el barco style spot, thought not as good. What is good is their octopus and shrimp cocktail....definitely better than the Maxwell version which I think tastes too much like ketchup. Ceviche's good as well. The split and grilled langostines aren't bad either, but not extraordinary.

Went here for lunch today-as noted by MJN, coctels and seviche are good. I sampled the fried tilapia (diabla and plain)-also good. Nice service. It's byob- and a number of tables brought beer...Not a bad somewhat funky little spot.

Went here for dinner ... interesting ambiance. Don't have many reference points for ceviche but the mixed ceviche was decent. Also had the shrimp empanadas which were solid, esp. dipped in the spicy house salsa.
Menu is mostly dominated by $10-20 price point dishes (which looked delish from the pics, but I wanted a smaller meal).
