I picked up a can of Vimto from a small store selling British products (called British Accents Ltd on Old mcHenry Rd) when I was at the Long Grove strawberry fest yesterday. I was wondering if this soda can be found in any grocery markets or shops in the city. I did search for it and see that it's apparently sold at a couple of Middle Eastern restaurants way up north. But I was wondering if anyone knows if it's sold anywhere else except in restaurants.

Also, I wonder what the diff is between the middle eastern Vimto and the UK Vimto? The can I had was from the UK, but I see there's another version with Arabic writing on it too.
    Thanks guys!

p.s. I have nothing good to say about the Strawberry Fest. I went there to buy local/homegrown strawberries and there was only *one* place selling strawberries but it was too pricey for me so I came back with nothing (well except Vimto ) . Too much of the food there was either non-strawberry related or it was stuff I could get anywhere/anytime, i.e., strawberry Jamba Juice smoothies.

I love Vimto. Brought to you by the proud corporation, Ziyad. Vimto, formerly of British extraction(so reads the label), to me tastes of Big Red soda. Which begs the question, could Vimto sue Big Red?

A Ghanian once chided me for buying Vimto in the can, he said, "No! VIMTO! Vimto must be drank frahm teh bottle...ha, ha, ha!"

Vimto comes in bottle form?? I agree with the Ghanian...sodas taste better in bottle form than canned.

Are we talking glass or plastic bottle. For instance I find that Mountain Dew from a plastic bottle to be inferior to Mountain Dew from a can. I cannot honestly say if I have ever had it from a glass bottle or not but I find the canned version superior to the stuff from a plastic bottle.

You should be able to find Vimto at many Middle Eastern shops. Probably most markets around Lawrence & Kedzie stock it.

I picked up a can ($0.69) at Olive Mount, a nice market in the old Palestinian neighborhood on West 63rd Street. They also have bottles of the syrup ($4.99). I enjoy Vimto every now and then but, wow, that stuff is sweet!

I should have asked specifically where Rene G/Peter Engler bought this six pack as it came with accompanying high fashion Vimto model. :)

    Vimto model, Rene G

Vimto was tasty, very sweet, as Rene/Peter Engler mentioned, with dried fruit/prune overtones. Reminded me a little of the time I tasted Dr. Pepper made with cane sugar.

    Enjoy,
