Oberweis delivery

Anyone else have Oberweis dairy delivery? We signed up yesterday. Two 1/2 gallons of skim milk, one 1/2 gallon of chocolate milk, and a quart of chocolate/peanut-butter ice cream will be dropped off sometime between 3 and 4 a.m. in a cooler in a couple weeks. There is a 15% discount promotion going right now, so it ends up costing way less than the store. The Sconnie in me can't wait.

I've had it for years. I drink a lot of milk so it's just really convenient not to have to lug it from the store. The cooler does keep the milk pretty well but once it gets hot make sure you get to the cooler as soon as you get up.

They are very good about taking last minute changes to your order, and only really, really bad weather has ever stopped a delivery. IIRC the delivery is usually the next day or as soon as they can make it out. I think this happened one time this past winter.

Where did you see the 15% off deal? I went on the web site and didn't see it. I'm thinking about calling up and asking for the offer myself now. It can't hurt.

Actually, their telemarketer called us last night, which is how we heard about it. I ususally hang up on telemarketers, but when they're talking about dairy...

We've been getting delivery for 2 years now. We love it. With that and Costco, I can skip a weekly grocery run. I get bread, juice, milk and eggs. The milk is tastier than supermarket organic, IMO. It has a fresher flavor.

The skim is actually pretty tasty. It doesn't seem as thin as the other skim milks. Would I be able to tell in a blind taste test? Hmmm, you've got me thinking.

I wish they had 1%. Right now I'm ordering skim and 2% both and mixing when I feel like it. Sometimes I just drink 2% when I'm feeling really crazy. Seriously, the 2% is really good.

I'm not a huge fan of their ice cream though. It's still ice cream--I wouldn't turn it down--but just not my first choice.

I like their over-priced cottage cheese.

I wish they delivered to me, I grew up on oberweis delivery!

We used to get Oberweis delivered, but I stopped the delivery once I found it at the grocery store. There are weeks I just don't go through a half gallon (depending on whether the kids are drinking milk that week and using it on cereal) and I couldn't justify the delivery fee.

I have switched my kids out to the Costco milk because it is cheaper. But I admit, the Oberweis tastes better, especially the skim. It tastes better than any other skim I have tried -- more like 2%. I have no idea why.

I get my milk from Oberweis too and I have noticed a difference between that milk and the milk that I previously got from grocery stores. I wouldn't say that it is always better, but it is far more consistent. It seems like some of the grocery store milk would taste just a bit off. It hadn't gone bad and was still drinkable but it was not as tasty as it certainly could be.

Plus, glass bottles are neat.

I wish Oberweis would bring back the quarts of buttermilk.

That was the best buttermilk in the world - it had a thick clot of creamy milk at the top of the bottle - almost like sour cream & the thick texture & consistency of the buttermilk was wonderful.

I wonder why they stopped offering it? Please, Oberweis Dairy - Bring back the buttermilk!

I think anything tastes better in a glass bottle.

I've been a delivery customer for a few years. I agree that their skim milk is the best because it doesn't taste "thin". The only milk I drink is skim, so to me it's worth the splurge.

I also appreciate their excellent customer service. I'm a fan of companies that allow you to talk to a human. It's very easy to put your delivery on hold if you'll be out of town, change your order etc.

Also, remember the hot weather warning posted above and this cold weather warning as well. It we're having extreme cold, the bottles can freeze and crack; a huge mess. (If that happens, as it did to me a few years ago, they will bring a new cooler and new milk). This year, I missed two deliveries because of the cold, but I don't consider that a problem.

Noticed today Oberweis Dairy is 3/4 of the way through construction of a retail shop on the 6400 block of Lincoln Ave. This is directly across the street from the Bunny Hutch, a one-two punch for Harry V if I ever saw one.

There was a "Help Wanted" sign for a Lincolnwood location in the Park Ridge Oberweis when I was there yesterday. I was wondering where the new place was going to be.

Does anyone know if that promotion is still going on? I got an e-mail offer for my moms playgroup to get a 15% discount but if this is not exclusive to our members then I'm either not interested or I want more than this...
