this is really good lump at a really good price . $3.97 for a two pak (20 lbs). I just used some this past weekend and ended up grabbing an additional 15 2 paks at the Costco in Schaumburg. Not sure about the Costco in the city. Just under 4 bucks for 20 pounds of good lump is a steal (Naked Whiz site grades it above average)

Wow. This morning, I got suckered into buying a 5-lb. bag of Cowboy lump at Home Depot for $6.50. I know better, but Berger Bros. isn't open today, and that's my usual source. Their 20-lb. bags are about $8.

The pricing at Berger Bors is market driven and variable (like everyting else these days). They generally have fairly low prices since they are a distributor, but the last batch I bought there (around 3 weeks ago) was over $10 per 20lb bag.

Quite a price reduction as it was $7.99 at the Mount Prospect Costco 2 weeks ago! I've burned about 100 pounds and it holds pretty steady for 3 to 4 hours per 10 pounds. Not crazy about the initial snapping and crackling but it does settle down. I agree it's good lump and I guess my 6/30/08 expired membership is now going to be renewed today.

I didn't see it at the Lincoln Park (Damen/Clybourn) Costco today, so if anyone does see it there, please let us know (and if possible where in the store!).

I wouldn't swear to it, but it's my understanding that when a price ends in .97 at Costco it means they are through carrying
that product and have marked it way down to get rid of it.
So if you like the lump I'd load up on it while you can.

The more fool-proof way to know if costco is going to stop selling something is to look for an asterisk on the tag.

im pretty sure when its gone its gone..thus the price reduction
the website for the company thats sells it does not show Il at all as a place its carried. Its the same company that makes Rancher brand briquettes that were all the rage with the bbq guys for awhile when Home Depot carried it. That too is gone. Looks like they were pretty much test marketing thier product here.
and yes it does snap a bit when lighting..ive seen that with a lot of lump though ..not a showstopper for me. What are you cooking on that you are only getting a 3 hr burn with a 10 pound bag though? You should get a bit more than that

Your right. I meant to say 4 to 5 hours and much closer to 5 hours which is when I am refueling my WSM anyway, for Shoulders and Brisket, per the Professor's teachings. I usually only use a thermometer when it's really windy or trying new charcoal. I did notice a drop down from 230 degrees to 200, around the 4 hour mark once, while doing some Spares and decided to add some more for the final hour. I'm only using a WSM and once a year, for nostalgia's sake only, my original cheapie Brinkman, now 19 years old and refusing to die in its place peacefully, outside behind the garage.
