hi! I need some help here, and was hoping you guys could come to my rescue!

my baby boy is turning one, and we are doing a party for him. It's at a children's party venue in lincoln park on a sunday afternoon. Not really lunch or dinner, but I think we need heavy snacks....if that makes sense.

any ideas/thoughts on where we could cater from? Kids would range from 1-3 yrs old...and there will be about 25 of them. Need to feed there parents too (~50ppl).

Budget is open, but just based on the event, I don't think we need anything too crazy fancy.

    help??

For my sons First Birthday I hired the Good Humor man to come with his truck and serve ice cream to everyone (we had 70 people) For $25 plus the cost of the ice cream it was the major hit of the day.

I called various places to arrange for this but was only ultimately succesful by going to the good humor man at forestway and tower road in Winnetka and arranging it in person. He has a phone but i lost his card, unfortunately.

We had a cake, costumed characters, a moon walk, pony, etc as well as a full spread of food. If I only had the good humor truck people would have been psyched. Its all anyone talked about.

    Pcman,

Monogramme Catering and Fig Catering come to mind, I am acquainted with both and the owners are members of LTHForum.

Chuck's Southern Comforts Cafe does a nice job of inexpensive BBQ centric catering, we have used Chuck's for our neighborhood block party the last 7-8 years.

    Enjoy,

[emphasis mine] We have a Good Humor truck at our annual 4th of July party. The guy we hire is a Dean's milk distributor by day who bought and completly restored one of the old fashion Good Humor trucks. Ours too is always the hit of the party. You can have it with an attendant or without.

Also, I would double think the PB&J...the children attending the party are a bit young to know if they have peanut allergies.

I just threw a birthday party for my 3 year old twins. We made the food ourselves, but it strikes me that with the 1-3 year old set, especially for "snacks", all you'll need is some fruit (think non-staining - apple slices sprizted with lemon to prevent browning, green grapes, raisins, maybe pineapple) and a giant carton of Pepperidge Farm Goldfish. Add small water bottles and some real juice boxes and you are set. Parents will love the healthy choices.

For the adult snacks, I love Panozzo's. It is not exactly in Lincoln Park, and you'll have to go pick it up, but they will be happy to customize the order. You could get a tray of pasta or Caprese salad, and some sandwiches cut into small slices, and the parents would enjoy them, as well as the bigger kids.

Finally, for desert you probably already know of Sweet Mandy B's. The kids and parents always love their cakes and cupcakes.

    Good luck!
Today I caught that fish again, that lovely silver prince of fishes,
And once again he offered me, if I would only set him free—
Any one of a number of wonderful wishes... He was delicious! - Shel Silverstein
