Having recently moved to Oak Park, I am not sure what stores (if any) sell lump charcoal 'round these parts. Any info on where I can find some would be handy. Many thanks.

I believe Gilchrist Hardware is no longer operative as they say.

More often than not, although not always, Serrelli's, whose only other known fan is Ronnie Suburban, sells 20 lb bags of Royal Oak, industry marketed, hardwood charcoal. Serrelli's is a generally interesting and anachronistic place. They make some highly decent Italian saw-sage.

Sad but true. This excellent, old-timey place, with floor-to-ceiling cabinets of washers, nuts and bolts, is now shuttered.

Schauer's Ace Hardware, in Forest Park on Madison, has chunk hardwood for smoking and may have lump charcoal.

Many thanks for the guidance. Gilchrist must be the clearly closed hardware store I always notice on Madison and think to myself "I bet that was a really cool place."
