    I ended up having to have emergency surgery last night--- and my boyfriend feels really bad that he couldn't be there (work obligations.) He told me to make dinner reservations "anywhere I want to go" but I am at a loss when it comes to good food in the Western burbs. I know there are plenty of threads about this but my brain is too fried to handle searching right now. I'm thinking I want to head out to the Yorktown/Oak Brook area and I am thinking of staying somewhere in the middle-price range (maybe $60-$75 for dinner for two, drinks not included, since I'm not supposed to drink?) Other that the chain places I am thinking of (Claim Jumper, Maggianos, etc.) what are our options? I really really want some italian food or a good steak.....

    Thanks =)

    About 15 min east, you can do Gaetano's in Forest Park. Call first, might need to do a late seating on short notice.

    Not a steak, but you can do pretty good on a nice shish ka bob at Reza's in Oak Brook Terrace. If you are looking to Claim Jumper, tho, peace be with you. Although, their Jamaican jerk sweet potato is good, and the water is quite refreshing.
    We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

    We live in the immediate area & usually try to avoid the overrated & rushed Yorktown/Oak Brook area if at all possible. The majority of the restaurants in that area seem to lose the personal touch and tend to be a little too rushed for our taste, especially on a Saturday night.

    On that note..... we've had many delicious meals with excellent service at Figo on Main Street in downtown Glen Ellyn. And just around the corner from Figo on Duane is Vitorio's. The owner & his son make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. Small, but very cozy & welcoming.

    We also enjoy Clara's on Route 53 in Woodridge. Reasonably priced old school Italian. I could make a meal just out of their portabella with gorgonzola mushroom appetizer. The grilled calamari is delicious too. For dinner, I especially like the spinach lasagna. All of their pastas are homemade.

    Another great option (although not specifically Italian) is Praga in downtown Lombard. They have a cute little outdoor area (if it stops raining) and the food has always been top-notch. The scallops will just melt in your mouth. They just opened a wine bar next door about a month ago, though you probably won't be able to enjoy that tonight.

    Good food always helps me on the road to recovery.... enjoy your evening!

    P.S. Please let us know where you end up!
