Here's a pretty comprehensive list sorted by region of the country.

Not knowing where you're looking to pub crawl, I'll just suggest the one closest to my house: Molly Malone's. In early 2007, after eating cicadas all evening, GWiv, C2, MHL and me and some others went there for burgers, which were better than expected (or at least by comparison). There's usually a cover band playing (though there's no cover) on weekends.

I bumped a link to Bridie McKenna's in Highwood to the top of the Eating Out in Chicagoland thread. I did it because I don't know how to create a link in a posting.
Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Small moderator-type point: GB, you did more than just bump (which almost no one ever does on LTH); you added more content, which is much better than simply lifting a thread to the top of a list to increase visibilty without actually increasing content.

Molly Malone's is pretty good; Chief O'Neill's was really over-salted the last time I was there, so I haven't been back.

Our current favorite is The Celtic Knot in Evanston- great food that isn't just bar food (although their burgers are among the best I've ever had) but also some real Irish food- lots of seafood, lamb stew, Shephard's pie, bangers & mash, black and white pudding, etc. It's in a warm, inviting atmosphere and has consistently good service. They also have afternoon tea twice a week (never been to that) and entertainment on a regular basis.

The Irish Oak has some of the most authentic food. Chief O'Neill's has some of the best music. The little pub in the Irish American Heritage Center is fun, too.

I like the Atlantic Bar and Grill quite a bit, I mostly go there for lunch but have enjoyed myself the couple times I've gone there at night as well.

I'll second the recommendation of the Atlantic. Not as cozy as the other places, but a pretty good burger and lots of Irish accents to be heard, so it can't be too bad.

A listing of Irish Pubs can't be done without mentioning Celtic Crossing, simply the most 'real' Irish Pub in Chicago, but they have no food, save for Tato Crisps so mentioning them in the Eating Out category is out.

I didn't use the word 'authentic' 'cause I meant real.

As far as food, I second Celtic Knot, but in the city, The Gage rules and blows away the Knot's food. Excellent renditions of the standards like Shepherd's pie, Fish and Chips, Scotch Egg etc. But the roast elk saddle and other game entrees are awesome. I just noticed they have a 'house poutine' with elk ragout on the menu. I'm there, if not today, tomorrow.

For pub crawling, I used to do 2 maps, one for Lincoln Park, one for River North, both where you could stumble from pub to pub and 2 or 3 blocks is as far as you need to go before finding another one (and also find plentiful cabs or public transportation, essential after more than 1 pub in a row). But in a city where a new one opens every month my maps are ancient, and in serious need of editing. The newest pub, D4 is nice, but the crowds are tourists, not Irish regulars, or at least not yet. Good mussels, good beer and scotch selection.
