Having given this event an auspicious-sounding title, all it really means is that I want to drop off a copy of Maxim for Mr. Khan, so I might as well make a lunch out of it, and Mr. Peter Daane, esq., has suggested this date.

As before, it is important for the safety of mankind to eat at Khan regularly, search your feelings, you know this to be true, so I hope to see a goodly group of LTHers there on Monday, this is a wholly public and welcoming lunch open to everybody, the more the merrier, we had at least one newbie last time and hope for more this time. Reply in this thread if you know you're coming, but we can easily accommodate last-minuters, too.

    HI,

If I didn't have a road construction project to plow through, I would be there.

Maybe in a few months when the Edens is back to normal.

    Have fun!
    Regards,
    Cathy2

Since I have now learned that nothing is this life should be taken for granted, I am hoping to make this my first post-heart attack LTH event :D

PS Very small, very mild...and the doctors aren't even 100% certain that it WAS a heart attack...but since nothing else seems accurate, that's what they've settled on.

Alas, I'll be unable to make it on Monday. How do you think Mr. Khan will react when he thumbs through the issue of Maxim? :)

We're (my wife is) scheduled to induce on 8/5. Thank goodness! That means I can make lunch at Khan on 8/4. Unless, of course, she decides to get it on prior to our appointment. I'll do my best to let mother and child understand what priorities are. I hope to see you there.

Ah...phooey! Life intervenes and I will have to take a rain check. And I was so looking forward to this. My apologies to one and all.

    Sorry to hear it, GB.

I'm rather surprised at the non-response to lunch at Khan which was, last I recall, rather a favorite of many adventuresome diners here. Denny's have a lunch special I don't know about that's drawing the usual crowd?

Maybe folks are thinking of coming who haven't said. I hope.

i'm free for lunch tomorrow, and would love to go to Khan's BBQ, but not on a day when Maxim magazine is involved. maybe the other women on the board are staying away for the same reason i am-not wanting to give even tacit approval to such a trashy rag. (sorry mikeG, no reflection on your food writing). justjoan

I would consider attendance at this event more a recognition of MikeG than of the magazine his excellent writing was published in. It's not easy getting your stuff published, and although MikeG might have preferred to have been in the New Yorker or Esquire, Maxim is no Gent or Knave, and they run some good articles about, for instance, potato chips and Grant Achatz (and, yes, I peruse this mag only for the articles).

Mike, I wish I could be there - I've very much enjoyed past forays to Khan's, but I'm saddled on my own with an eight-year-old who doesn't want anything to do with Indo-Paki food. Though I've been chipping away at this aversion, I'll spare you the theatrical whinyness... :D

However, congrats on the write-up in Maxim!

Unfortunately I work in the Loop. So, I'm pretty much out for any lunch during the week that doesn't take place within spitting distance of my office. I would imagine there are many others in the same situation.

    Thank you.

If I'm vertical, I'm still going to try and make it. However, vertical may be a challenge in a couple hours. We'll see. If not, enjoy the meal.

    I shall be there.

I live a mere two blocks from Khan and if lunch was on a Saturday or Sunday, I'd be there in an instant. But Monday through Friday I'm about 10 miles away in the Loop. Every time there is an LTH mid-week lunch gathering, I am pea-green with envy and thinking, "What kind of jobs do these folks have and how can I get one!" :) Congrats from afar on the piece in Maxim, Mike!

Well, a nice group of six of us passed up Denny's and met up at Khan BBQ today.

Toward the end, I took the issue of Maxim up to the counter and started to explain why I was bringing this potentially haraam magazine to their attention. (In reality, Maxim is at most PG-13, despite its overheated rep.)

The guy looked at me and said, "Yeah, we know about it."

So I gave the issue to them, told them I was the one responsible, and he shook my hand and thanked me.

As we left, a group of several of them were clustered around it on the counter, reading-- or at least looking at the pictures...

My apologies to MikeG and the five other antidennystablishmentphagiests for missing the event and one of the best lunches in Chicago.

I suggested the date as one of the few weekday dates that I would not be working in the loop (I miss most of the mid-week gatherings as well). Unfortunately, my guests were late-leaving due to a convergence of T-storms and flight schedules.

Perhaps an evening or weekend gathering in the near future can be arranged. It will just have to wait a few weeks.
