    On the Tour de France LTH-style, a few of us realized that we had a shared craving for TAC Quick, and dansch, who's never been, is eager to make his first visit. So, I'm proposing dinner at one my very favorite GNRs on Thursday, August 7th @ 6:30. Please post here if you can make it. The more, the merrier!

    Very luckily, August 7 is a Cubs off-day in between two homestands. However, it's a makeup day, so please pray there aren't any rainouts between now and then, or that neighborhood becomes intolerable for parking and public transport.

    Which is to say: I'm in for en choy either way. Looking forward to it!

    No problem whatsoever, happy_stomach! I knew it was going to be difficult to get on choy from there on a Tuesday. Sorry I'm going to be out of town, so I can't join you :( Maybe next time.

    I have to work until 6pm, then fight traffic from Glenview to the restaurant. I'm hoping to be there by 7pm.

    Are we going to put a cap on the number of attendees? I've got a couple friends who have expressed interest but I told them I wasn't sure if it was full or not.

    I'll call tomorrow (they're closed on Tuesdays :D ) and see how big of a group they can take next Thursday. I had no idea how much interest there would be, so I didn't do any earlier checking about group size. I'll post tomorrow with what I find out.

    An update: I called TAC Quick and am waiting for a call back. I said it could be a group of 18-20 people and that we were happy to place our order in advance. I'm supposed to hear back this afternoon.

    This would be our first LTH dinner and we have really been wanting to try TAC but were somehwat intimidated as we do not eat a lot of Thai. This would be a perfect way to try a varied menu put together by people in the know. Please add myself and my husband if there is room. We like spicey! :twisted:

    Oh man. I'm going to feel awful if TAC Quick tells me the limit is 10. I'm thrilled that there's so much interest in this dinner. Worst case scenario--I'll set up a second dinner, and I will make the sacrifice and partake in both. :D

    I'll post again once I have definite news.

    I will gladly and happily step aside for those who have not been there before. I can wait till a second dinner. In fact I do like smaller gatherings, 20 would be kind of tight there. 10-12 is a good size, they can put a group that size off on the south side of the room.

    Just got off the phone with TAC Quick, and we're set for up to 20 people on Thursday, August 7 @ 6:30. To make things easier for them, I will go in and talk to Andy sometime this weekend to set up a menu. I have a good sense of the TAC Quick favorites, but please speak up by Friday morning if you have specific requests. I'll post the menu early next week.

    Kennyz--no need to sit under the el.

    Hi all,

    I stopped into TAC Quick this past weekend to set the menu for Thursday. Given the number of LTH dinners I’ve participated in in the last year and a half, one would think I’d be more savvy at ordering for a group. I still get anxious though, making such decisions. I did my best, possibly ordering too much food (or too little?). I’ve requested two orders of each of the items listed below:

    * Crispy on choy
    * Issan sausage
    * Thai-style fried chicken
    * Crispy basil
    * Papaya salad with salted crab
    * Shrimp paste dip w/ grilled mackerel & crudités (naam phrik ka-pi plaa thuu)
    * Spicy rice noodle soup w/ beef and Chinese broccoli (kuay tiaw reua)
    * Hot stir fried catfish
    * Pork neck
    * Duck curry
    * Garlic pork rib

    Feel free to let me know if you think there’s anything I really should take off the menu or add. TAC Quick is BYO, so to estimate cost, I guessed we’d bring the equivalent of five bottles of wine (or beer or whatever folks want). With corkage, tax and tip for 20 people, the meal will run roughly $15-$18 per person. I hope this is OK.

    Also, so that they can set up tables appropriately, I told the restaurant that I’d call with a final number of people on Wednesday afternoon, so let me know if you’d like to join us or can’t make it by then.

    I should probably say that there's a small chance I may have to ask someone to take my place on Thursday. I injured my neck and back pretty badly yesterday, and simple movement is difficult for me right now. I tend to rebound quickly, so I'm hoping with painkillers to be moving about in a day or two. If I can get to TAC Quick, I will be there. In the mean time, I will follow through will all of the arrangements.

    Sharon
