I will be going into the city tomorrow. I need recommendations for a late breakfast type or lunch type meal, not fast food, but nicer, sit down with a waitstaff. Location: any place from the Eisenhower up Ashland to Andersonville (it would be nice if it could be in Andersonville, Edgewater, or Lincoln Square) or a short detour off that path. Some place not crowded and too expensive. We usually go to Ina's on Randolph but want to try something different. A couple places I have thought about are Jury's, or Tre Kronor (west of where I am going). Looking for salads, omelets, sandwiches, etc. not dinner fare. (not Chinese or Thai) Pls advise.

Looking at your request, I'm wondering if you realize that you're heading into Sunday Brunch both for food and timing - which means no matter where you go, you're looking at long lines and harried service.

That being said, Big Jones seems to be getting some attention, though a lot of it isn't positive...there's another thread on breakfast here.

I recommend Icosium Kafe, in the heart of Andersonville at Foster and Clark. It meets your criteria: inexpensive, pleasant ambience, not crowded (even at Sunday brunchtime, in my experience), with a variety of breakfast/brunch/lunch/dessert offerings which can be served inside a crepe or not. Here's a link to the savory page of their menu. For whatever reason, this place hasn't really resonated with the LTH community (or, it seems, the general public), but I've been there about five or six times and have always enjoyed the food and the service.

You may want to consider Glen's Diner too. Known best here for its wonderful seafood specials in the evenings, Glen's does a nice job with pancakes and omelets. Friendly staff. Good strong coffee.

A lot depends on the time you will get to the restaurant as far as how crowded it will be. Although at peak time there is often a wait, I'd go with Tre Kroner, especially if we have another beautiful day like today. They have a small outdoor sitting area, delicious breakfast/brunch/lunch food with good service. Afterwards take a walk through the North Park U campus to the branch of the Chicago River that runs through. A lovely Sunday experience.

Jury's is not open for Sunday brunch. They open at 2 pm on Sundays.
