It's very advanced notice, but I figure if I don't get a date on the calendar, I'll never get around to planning it. It's long overdue, but I'm pleased to announce the sequel to the very fun
    Devon-a-thon I:

    Sunday October 19
Roughly 10:00 am to about 2:00 pm
(exact schedule and intinerary to come a little closer to the date)

As with the last Devon-a-thon, we'll go more multi-ethnic than strict Indo-Pak. Since our last trip stretched about a mile and a half and got us all the way east of Clark St., this time we will focus west of Western Ave., and keep a tighter radius.

I am open to all suggestions of places to visit, but here's what I'm thinking for now:

    Tel Aviv Kosher Bakery
    Three Sisters Deli
    Kamdar Plaza
    Uru Swati
    Uncle's Kabob
Late lunch at Hai Woon Dae (even though it's on California, I think it's worth turning the corner off Devon)

I was thinking we wouldn't repeat any of the places we visited during Devon-a-thon I, however, I'm not sure I can resist a little detour to Argo Georgian Bakery for a fresh, warm hatchapuri. :D

Let's limit the group size to 15, and finalize RSVP's by October 10 so I can give a heads up to the places we will visit. Thanks all.

Thanks, Hellodali, for taking the reins once again. I'm sure it will be a great time, just as the original Devon-a-thon was. Unfortunately, I have a conflict on 10/19 but I'll be thinking good thoughts for you guys and wishing I could be in 2 places at once. :)

You might consider adding Three Sisters Deli to your list for some Russian delicacies.

Sorry I can't make it. Sounds like a great time.

Please put me down as tentative since I'm trying to make fall travel plans. If I make it, I'll try not to wimp out after two stops this time...

I'll even get out of the house by 10:00 am on a Sunday morning for what sounds like a fun time walking around Devon on a crisp autumn day.

As the date is so far in advance, I am a tentative yes as well.

Please add me plus one (the husband) to your list, Hellodali. This is our 'hood and I'm sorry to say we haven't tried all of these places. I know Tel Aviv bakery--excellent rye bread the last time I had it--and our family is regular consumers of Zam Zam samosas. Looking forward to trying more places.

The last Devon-a-Thon was great fun.
The four or five of us brave souls who survived the hours of eating, ended up at the Jerusalem (right name?) and it was very good. A possible adition to the list?

    Thanks for organizing this.

We're already at 13 yes and four tentative for Devon-a-thon II so I will start a waiting list for anyone interested from here on out. Closer to the date, we can finalize the yeses and turn any tentatives into yeses or nos and go from there. I'm tickled by the interest and look forward to the good company that day.

    Hello all:

Devon-a-thon II: Go West is only 11 days away and I’d like to firm up the schedule and fellow travelers.

I erred a bit in my original estimation of 10:00-2:00 for the day as it looks more like we’ll be finishing around 3:30. But we may spend less time at some places than I’ve estimated and may get to Hai Woon Dae before 2:00.

Here’s what I’d like to propose for the not-written-in-stone-we-can-keep-it-kinda-loose itinerary:

    10:00 – 10:30
    Tel Aviv Kosher Bakery (bakery)
    2944 W. Devon Ave.
    (773) 764-8877

    10:30 – 11:00
Three Sisters Delicatessen (Russian deli and market)
    2854 W. Devon Ave.
    (773) 973-1919

    11:00 – 12:15
    Uncle’s Kabob (Assyrian restaurant)
    2816 W. Devon
    773-338-3134

(we may get off schedule here a bit since some of us will likely heed the siren call of hatchapuri from the Georgian bakery on the way to Kamdar….)

    12:15 – 12:45
    Kamdar Plaza (Indian market)
    2646 W. Devon Ave.
    (773) 338-8100

    12:45 – 2:00
    Uru Swati (Indian vegetarian restaurant)
    2629 W. Devon Ave.
    (773) 262-5280

    2:00 – 3:30
Hai Woon Dae (Korean BBQ restaurant)
    6240 N. California Ave.
    (773) 764-8018

So we have a nice range of cuisines and three sit down restaurants and three to-go/market places. We’ll be walking about a mile total.

For participants so far, I have (I’d like to keep the final total to 15):

    Yes
    hellodali
    nr706
    EvA +1
    Green Fish
    ChgoMike
    justjoan
    G Wiv +1
    na
    GAF
    jules80
    moetchandon
    ursiform
    hungryinchicago+1
    epoisses

    TOTAL - 17yes

Unless you post otherwise, I’ll assume the yes’s are still yes. Those of you who are tentative, if you could state your intentions by this Saturday the 10th so we can let the wait list folks know whether there is room for them or not.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome. Looking forward to a delicious day with good company!

I'm still a yes, but I might be late and have to skip the first joint. I went here once and had a white chocolate-covered pistachio-mousse-macaroony thing from the refrigerated case - YOU MUST TRY. Just thought I'd toss that in, in case I'm not there to rave about it in person. See you next Sunday!
