I'm new to this message board and I did a quick search to see if anyone had a post for this restaurant. I didn't see anything and decided I had to post something for it. I'll go anywhere to try a great sandwich. Luckily I live in the NW burbs so I don't have to travel far for the best subs I've ever eaten. Every ingredient on their huge sandwich menu is perfect. The bread is delicious. The subs are good size and I can't stop my gluttony- I usually get 2.
It's right off Rte. 31 just south of downtown Algonquin.
So if you want a good sub sandwich, go get some A.S.S.

Am I the only one who doubts this poster's motivation here?

Trust me, I have nothing to do with the business. I don't even know the owner and the only words I've ever uttered to the help is my orders and thank you. I'm a barber in Crystal Lake. You can google me (slim the barber) and find out I got nothing to do with food other than eating it. You can look A.S.S. up on any review site and find out I'm not B. S.'ing.

    Slim,

Welcome to LTHForum, always nice to have another enthusiastic voice added to the mix. Even though it's not quite my style of music I enjoyed your Slim's Barber Shop Hip Hop Master of Ceremonies interview of Big Daddy Kane.

I do still have one slight reservation, do we really want to take dining advice from a fellow named Slim. :)

    Enjoy,
    Gary

OK, I apologize. I know exactly where that is now that I Mapquest it. That place has been at least a dozen different sandwich shops over the past 25-30 years. Algonquin used to have a barbershop called Mr. A's. Mr. A was at least 350 lbs. There's a tidbit for you.

Slim knows of what he speaks. Although I have only been there twice, Algonquin Sub Shop is very good. Nothing at all to look at from the outside, (or inside) they have a large and interesting selection of high-quality sandwiches with great bread. I have been told that their soups are also good, but I have only had their chili, which is beanless, hot and very good. (I won't be purchasing their T-shirt, however, which IIRC shows a donkey with a phrase something along the long the lines of...Have you had any A.S.S. today?...)

Interesting, now I gotta get me a piece of A.S.S.

Slim, you gotta bring the high top fade back!

Thank you. I used to be very skinny (graduated high school at 6'6" 170lbs.), but I could always eat a ton of food. Ever since my wife had kids though, I can gain weight which is not good because I still eat like someone who can't.
And Big Daddy Kane=whatevs? I'm not gonna put down Schooly D, but Kane and Rakim are the hip hop gods. But, we're not here to talk about me or Big Daddy Kane, let's get on to the next and talk about food.

I live in the area and it isn't a place that we (or our neighbors) frequent. It's terribly inconsistant and forget it if your in a hurry. Sometimes it takes 15 - 20 minutes for them to make your sandwich. Sometimes you get a overly generous portion between your bread and then next time it's all bread and nothing between. The food is cooked by a bunch of kids who are more interested in having a good time at work then working

If they only could be consistant, I'd eat there. They have some really good sandwiches if done with any attention.
