When I read the feature article about Gary in Edible Chicago, I thought the author did a great job capturing his essence. "Charm," "bawdy sense of humor," and "magnet...draws people to him" are all phases that really resonated with me, based on the few occasions on which I've been lucky enough to hang out with the man with the "burning passion." Congratulations to Gary for this article and other recent positive and well-deserved press.

I'm not exactly objective because Gary is my friend (and because I took the pictures of Gary that accompany the piece) but I thought it was great, too. Writer Susan Oh did a fantastic job of capturing the 'spirit of Gary,' right from the opening line, in which she describes him as a 'gentle bear of a man.'

But more than than, the entire publication was excellent, IMO. All the pieces -- not just the one about Gary -- were well-written and informative, and the editorial quality was high.

(Good thing you have Mrs.Wiv to keep you from going blue in the press, G! )

Agreed! I would also add "warm and generous" to the list.
    Congratulations Gary.

I agree the issue was great all-around, but reading the Wiv story, I couldn't help but think "Gary, get your mind back in the gutter."

Golly. Hell of an article (and great pics, Ronnie) about a hell of a guy. Really. A nice and well-written article about a very deserving guy. Pleased you're getting your just desserts (as it were), Gary. Congratulations!

    Thanks all.

I was quite honored to be in Edible Chicago's inaugural issue and heartily agree with Ronnie_S as to the entire publication being informative and well written. As mentioned Ronnie_Suburban took the pictures accompanying the article, he is obviously a photoshop touch-up wizard.

    Very nice article.

I haven't been around here as long as others but I have always appreciated Gary's input and recipes that he shares. I look forward to his book and should really take the Professor's online course.

Really enjoyed the article. It certainly seems to capture Gary well—and we can hope it is laying the groundwork for success for his book.

I had to smile as I read the tips at the end—since it reflects so much of what I have not only learned from Gary, but have also passed on to others on the strength of his reputation. Especially not soaking the wood.

Good stuff. Worthy subject worthily treated.

Oh -- and Ronnie's photos are great, too.
