Time Out New York, which comes to my Brooklyn home, just ran a nice article about New York's best steaks served at restaurants which aren't steakhouses. You can be sure I'll be visiting Morandi soon and reporting back to LTH.

that steak @ Morandi is the right size(40 oz.), and looks interesting, but I dont know about the whole presliced thing.

I would be interested to hear if it is good, the steak @ Convivium Ostera looks good too.

Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill in the Ironbound District makes a terrific chipotle rubbed ribeye. it has a sweet, hot smoky crust which marries extremely well with the fatiness of the ribeye. I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Sammy's Romanian Steakhouse, on Chrystie Street, is a steakhouse by name, but isn't really considered among the Sparks' and Ben Benson's variety of testosterone driven steakhouses. Sammy's is an "old country" style jewish place with schmaltz on the tables and a delectable chicken liver pate served as an appetizer. The star of the show is a huge tenderized, garlicky skirt steak always cooked medium and weighing in at about 36 ounces. It's pretty hard to beat in the $30 range.
