[Mod. edit, split from Kansas City Index]

Just came back from a conference in Kansas City. I wish I had found this topic before I went. Since I was on business, I hit the tourist type places, but I did enjoy Lydia's, near Union Station. For $13 they provide a 3 pasta all you can eat deal serve tableside by servers carrying the pasta in skillets. Served with a soup or salad, I had the salad, which was good.

Had dinner at Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ and thought it was good. The group I was with ordered "the ends". A dish served up of all of the ends of the BBQ dishes, very tasty.

Dinner in the Weston at Benton's, which had some positive reviews online was disappointing. I didn't feel as though it was anything near a above average dinner. I should have went to one of the recommendations here.

    sicilianos,

Thanks for the feedback. It's funny, I don't think I've ever even heard of Benton's....thanks for the warning.

FYI, I split this off from the index post, which I guess should have been locked, but I never noticed it wasn't.

    Cheers,

    Aaron

    Aaron,

I apologize for posting to the sticky, but since I had just come back I wanted to post on it. Benton's has a Sunday buffet, with a decent carving table, the prime rib was more medium, than medium rare, but tasted good. I have certainly been to better, but it was ok. I was in town for a convention, and the hotel was booked solid, so perhaps the wait staff was feeling the crunch of being busy, but they were friendly. The restaurant has a great view of the liberty memorial and the downtown at night, but they ran out of cuts of steak before 7pm on a Saturday. Anyway, I am glad to get your input from the board and will definitely use it next time there.

No problem at all, it wasn't marked at all...just seems a little easier to keep track of conversation this way, but I hadn't really thought of it until I saw your post (which I'll also add to the index).

Wow. There aren't really nice hotels in KC, maybe one or two sort of modern boutique hotels. The Hotel Phillips has a steakhouse reputed to be pretty good, but its weird, the restaurants at the two old school nice hotels here on the Plaza (and I use "old school" loosely), the Raphael and the Intercontinental, I never think of their restaurants as destination dining. I guess it's not too surprising that the hotel restaurant scene is proportionately subpar.

I did see something, somewhere recently, though, about good cocktail at the hotel bars, so I'll need to follow up on that.

Look forward to your future posts.

    Cheers,

    Aaron
