I'm in the market for a candy thermometer, and I'm overwhelmed. Anyone here buy one recently who has been happy w/the purchase? I would prefer to spend no more than $40. Thanks.

I got a Wilton candy thermometer at their tent sale a few years ago. It's a standard issue thermometer and wasn't very expensive but it's been serving me well in my toffee and caramel making, where accuracy is key. Used to think I'd get a digital one but for the price, I couldn't pass this one up. Glad I bought it.

Cook's Illustrated recommends the CDN Digital Cooking Thermometer and Timer ($24.95) for candymaking.

It's just like a polder probe thermometer and it has a clip to hold the probe on the side of the pot. I've had this thermometer for years and it works juts fine.

    Best,
    Michael
