    Hello,

I recently moved to Deerfield and I'm looking for restaurants that deliver to the area (I'm near Deerfield Rd & Waukegan Rd). I've tried Boston Blackie's and some of the local pizza options (Viccino's, Piero's, Italian Kitchen), but was wondering if anyone had recommendations for some "non-pizza" options that I might be overlooking.

    Thanks.

Speaking strictly about non-pizza delivery, you might want to try Szechwan Kingdom, which is in Brookside Plaza on Waukegan Road, between Dundee and the I-94 spur. It's fairly standard issue American-style Chinese, at least on a delivery basis. I understand that they do offer some more authentic fare when you're dining in -- and I've seen signs of it -- but I personally have had a tough time coaxing it out of them.

Players Grill on Deerfield Road can be decent, too. Very good burgers (not quite as good as Blackie's, though), good soups and fresh fish are among their better offerings. I also like their 'Max,' which is a skirt steak sandwich on french bread (or garlic bread, if you prefer) smothered with fried onions. Avoid their chicken breast sandwiches at all costs. They overcook them beyond belief, producing a completely unpalatable exterior of burnt flesh that would be tough, even by jerky standards.

Sadly, I think that Boston Blackies is the best non-pizza delivery option the area. It's not that I don't like it because I do but it's, as they say, 'solid but not spectacular.'

FWIW, pizza-wise, I think Lou Malnati's in Highland Park is the best of the lot. If you haven't tried it, you may want to give them a shot.

    Hi again,

My wife reminded me that the relatively new Thai Thai, which is located in Lake Cook Plaza, offers delivery. I only had one meal there, which didn't exactly wow me but the place had some potential. You may want to check it out.

Had some dissapointing takeout from SK on Friday night. I forgot that they offer Dim Sum so i gave them another shot. The sticky rice, bbq pork bun and shui mai were all horrible, reminiscent of something you might find in your grocer's freezer. Definitely not house made. Sticky rice contained chicken strips which was a new twist for me and not a particularly good one.

I am also in DF- welcome to the neighborhood,
and like Ronnie have had good luck with SK...
we like their Orange Beef, Shrimp with Wlanuts,
Sweet and Sour anything (they keep the sauce on the side, so it doesn't get soggy)
The potstickers aren't bad- my 12 yr olds love them- I think they're OK
The Muu shu is also OK
The fried rice is also very nice.
Eating in I have had the crispy dcuk be excellent and also the
Lobster with garlic (it was a special occasion) be excellent, too.

I'm not a big Italian Kitchen fan,
but our house like's Il Forno's when you are in an Italian mood,
and they also have nice salads and mains other than pizza.

Going out- you gotta have the cheese fries at Dear Franks a cholesterol nightmare that is worth the calories...

Also when you have a yen for ribs or cajun, give Bluegrass in HP behind the police station a try,
and try one of their blueberry martinis-
    wonderful....

My wife and I have been to Thai Thai twice for lunch and I've enjoyed their curries.

    Hi,

Wonton Express is owned by the son-in-law of the owner of Chinatown's Seven Treasures. The shrimp dumpling soup noodles is what I go after there. There Beef Chow Fun is very similar to those from Seven Treasures.

They do close by 9 PM with a delivery range of 5 miles reaching all the way to central Highland Park.

I'd actually recommend Thai Image in downtown highland park. AFAIK the owners are Chinese, but their cooks make excellent Thai as well. They will probably deliver to your location, but I'm not certain. It's the only Thai place up here I've found that will consistently prepare the food I order spicy enough on request. You'd think the other places are all serving Thai food to geriatrics who thing adding black pepper means the food will be spicy ;).

I've also enjoyed the Italian Kitchen restaurant just east of you on Deerfield Rd. You could simply walk there ;). It's more or less a family owned Italian place. Not high end but pretty good for family style takeout fare.

I don't think the owners of Yummy Bowl have used the Thai Image name since they moved to Sheridan Rd. from the Optima Building several years ago. (How many was it?) They kept the Thai Image name for a bit but they're now know as Yummy Bowl. I just checked a somewhat old carry out menu and it shows that they deliver to Deerfield.

I go there mainly for lunch and they have a nice variety of Thai and Chinese dishes. I've found their waiters often underwhelmiing. They used to serve a nice fried rice with their lunches. I asked the owner, Theresa, why she eliminated the fried rice and only served brown or white rice with lunch. Her answer was that fried rice doesn't keep as well over night. Wonder what that means? Hard to say, but I don't go there as often as I used to. But you might want to give them a try. Their Thai dishes are better than average. I like the basil chicken and they make nice curries.
