I got a couple of growlers from Flossmoor Station for a party, while I was out that way for work. Very good beer. Now that I have finished the growlers and live in the complete opposite direction of Flossmoor, do you think it will be a problem getting these filled at other, closer brewpubs like Piece or Goose Island? The growlers have Flossmoor logo and writing all over it.

Does anyone know if growlers can only be filled at a brewpub or could you get draft to go at a tavern? There are a couple of bars that carry good drafts that I'd be happy to have at home. Is anyone aware of a bar that will fill growlers. Thanks

Pretty much any brewpub will fill pretty much any growler regardless of whose logo is on the jug.

As far as getting it filled at a regular bar--where I'm from downstate all the old guys go to their local tavern every morning and get their jugs filled with Old Milwaukee, but I don't know if that is true up here as well. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Ronnie said I should probably tell you guys about my website so

I'd call and ask. Many places swap out your growler for a clean/sanitized one and not sure what they'd do with one from a different brewery.

My understanding is that one brewpub can't fill another pub's growler. It has something to do with product labeling laws. It may happen but I haven't seen it. I have seen pubs exchange one of their own growlers for one from another pub though.

Most places will do this, but its more of a courtesy if you you forgot the actual one from the establishment. In reality the price of your first growler is usually 2 to 3 bucks for the glass and the rest for the beer inside. So I'd suggest just getting one from the actual brewery and try to always use their growler when you go there. If you just pop in every once in a while to get a random growler filled and it happens to not be theirs they probably will fill it. I have never been refused on the odd occasion I grabbed the wrong growler. I have never tried to use a "foreign" growler when I did not own one from same brewery either though, so Karma might getcha!

As a side note you should always clean your growlers well before going because I've had the odd bartender neither ask nor perform a cleaning of my growler.
