This may not be a meatball sandwich you were envisioning in your post. However, for a Vietnamese meatball sandwich. It was pretty darn good.
This may be approachable via CTA from Evanston ... Cavaet: I know there is a train stop in Argyle, I have no clue if that train ends in Skokie or in Evanston ... so I am not a source for transportation advice!

Post #6 - January 25th, 2005, 6:05 pmOMG! Meatball subs! Just as worthy a search as Italian beef, IMO. I know you're looking for Evanston, Hattyn, and I hope you won't mind if this is expanded to the entire Chicagoland area. A good meatball sub is hard to find.

A great meatball sub would necessarily have to made with great meatballs. I have yet to eat an Italian-style meatball out in any manner of restaurant that approaches the level of great. Such a simple thing to make and yet so few know how to do it...
Best to make and eat them at home...

Post #8 - January 25th, 2005, 6:24 pmThe Place now called MJ2 (formerly known as Sonny's) in the strip center whereMorningfields is located at Devon and Cumberland in Park Ridge makes it's own meatballs in house. They are quite delicious . During lunchtime, the meatballs are served up as sandwiches from a steam table in some excellent red gravy. The meatballs are primarily beef with a light touch of bread crumbs and, generally, lots of garlic.
If you ask nicely, they will throw a bit of provolone on the sandwich for you.
I find the meatballs themselves far superior than those served at Nottoli & Sons.
