Can copper plated pots go into the dishwasher?

I just scored big on a 7 piece set of now discontinued Martha Stewart Copper plated stainless steel pots (I got them on a way marked down clearance of $52.99! I am the queen of the bargain shoppers!) at Kmart. The box was all smashed up & it was the only one left, but I have been coveting that set for lo these many years (Yes, I admit, I am rather plebian .... the last set I bought was Revere Ware copper bottoms & that was like 25 years ago...and they are still good but I just love that copper pot look & always wanted a set & this is about the only way i could ever afford any - thank you Martha for remembering the little people).

Anyway, I have them hanging in my kitchen right now, just admiring them, but they need to be washed obviously, and I don't want to put them into the dishwasher & possibly ruin them, so I am asking here:

Is it okay to wash them in the dishwasher? (There was no paperwork in the box.)

This won't apply to anyone who keeps their copper pots nicely polished and displayed, but in a "what the hell" moment, I put my copper pots in the dishwasher. (Three weeks left of pregnancy and my tolerance to stand and scrub a pot has diminished considerably . ) The searches I did had warned about tarnishing, but I haven't polished my pots in about two years so this was a non issue for me. I tested first on my smallest pot, and it came out no worse than it went in. In subsequent washings with other copper pots and pans, I haven't seen any damage. Now, I would hate to hear that someone destroyed their $300 Williams-Sonoma copper pot by listening to me and putting it in the dishwasher. However, if you happened to score a copper set for cheap (which is what happened to me) and don't care about your pots' day to day appearance, I just wanted to let you know that putting your pots in the washer doesn't necessarily result in disaster. If you do decide to try it, I would recommend doing a test run on a smaller (cheaper) pot and seeing how it turns out. It could be that different brands, makes, and detergents have different effects.

Could this apply to pots that need to be retinned? I have a friend whose pot needs retinning. I'm not sure if these are the same type of copper pots as the stainless with cladding type. The pot I'm speaking of is probably 30 years old.
