The book America Eats! has very high praise for the biscuits and gravy at a place called the Bon Ton Cafe in Bainbridge, Indiana (due west of Indpls). Anybody know it and have an opinion?

Not sure about Bon Ton. I attended Ball State University in Muncie, In and always had great Biscuits and Gravy at a place called the Spot. What I remember most about the Spot was that everything was cooked in or with lard. The biscuits were flaky and delicious. The gravy was creamy, thick, and laced with sausage chunks. Oh the memories. FWIW, I have not been to Muncie in many moons.

Another great place was the Milroy Inn in Milroy, In. Milroy is maybe 20 milrs east of Shelbyville. Anyway, this hole in the wall had light fluffy biscuits and gravy loaded with pepper and sausage. From what I recall, only served on Saturday and Sunday morning.

I live in Bainbridge Indiana. I love the Bon Ton and my sister is a waitress there. Thanks for the compliment. :
