Buffalo, New York recommendations?

I will be heading to Buffalo, New York the middle of November. I keep reading beef on weck, fish fry Fridays, Souvlaki for breakfast, and Antoinettes for sponge candy. Can anybody chime in? Recommendations?

Buffalo? Maybe the birthplace of the Buffalo Wing, The Anchor Bar.

You can find a lengthy discussion of Buffalo places (as well as places on the way, if you're driving) here, including a worthwhile discussion of the relative quality of Anchor wings as well as where to get your beef on weck (I've noted my choice above--I cannot find my post on the subject, which may be because it is a phantom, but my Ulrich's is not and you should get thy butt over there).

I will have to read up on that post. It looks like I will also be going to Toronto. So, any recommendations for Toronto would be good also.

For Beef and a Weck, Schwabl's is hard to beat. I've been enjoying it for 25 years on visits and I guess they've been at it for about 200 years before I got there. Never paid close attention, but I seem to recall Center and Union as a location.

Seconding the recommendation for the Anchor's wings. Might as well visit the place where it all started. (There was rumor a few years ago that Anchor was going to move up the road toward Williamsville. Unknown as to fact.)

Also check out Hoak's near Hamburg and Bay View (just south of Bflo) hard by the lakeshore. Ten years since I was there, but it was great.

Steve's Pig and Ox Roast on Ridge Rd in Lackawanna was also a very good lunch spot. (Same time span.)

Duff's is often touted as having some of the best wings in buffalo.... some say better than anchor bar.

another buffalo area specialty that seems to be done very well is the chicken finger sub. strange that it's a "specialty" ...you can find it on a lot of menus and it's always fantastic.. i have never had anything like it here. i wish i could find something like it here that's worth eating. :] the chicken finger sub from Pasquales = delish and something I crave. http://www.pasquales.com/ ... or John & Mary's .. http://www.johnandmarys.com/Directions.htm

they also have something in the Buffalo area known as the Royal sub... which is a flattened Italian sausage and cappicola (sometimes other italian meats)...

the Bar Bill has a great beef on weck, probably the best i've had.. but they have quite a loyal following and their newer owner is at times a jerk.
