I expected this would be another silly program about celebrity/foodies that is increasingly common on FoodTV.

    It wasn't.

It's a very moving story about how a fatherless black kid drug dealer in South Central LA, who did 10 years in prison and worked in the prison kitchen, found in food his path to salvation. He became Executive Chef at the Bellagio in Vegas (after a while) and is now doing motivational appearances with disadvanted kids who are interested in the cooking profession.

I found it unexpectedly gripping. Check the FoodTV schedule.

Actually, the show was pretty good and very realistic.

What is kind of scary is that i have worked in kitchens where the staff had a lot more problems with those kids. However, if the good Chef doesn't take control of the kitchen pretty soon, a fight will break out.

I caught this the other day, and agree that it is well done moving. Easily the most "real" of the reality TV stuff I've seen on the food network, and chef Jeff is quite inspiring.

I agree, I watched the first 2 episodes, and Jeff is a true mensch performing a real mitsvah for these kids...
Maybe these will be six young souls who don't go on to rot in prison or die on the streets.
But I do think there's trouble brewing with the one ?Adam who keeps using the n-word...
also maybe it's just me, but if I had that kind of an opportunity, I don't think I'd show up late.

Even if it meant I had to leave an extra hour early, and maybe wait outside if I was 20 min early, better than late, but hey...thats JMHO

    very moving program.
has me switching away from brothers & sisters which makes the hubs very happy
