I need to get my knives sharpened prior to the various upcoming holidays. And I bet there are others who need the same service. So why not take care of this errand and attach a meal to it? Everything does go better with a meal...

I'm going down to Northwestern Cutlery on 11/6 at around 11am. I've never been before, but I hear it's the place to go to with dull knives and perhaps spend a little money on needed, and not-so-needed, kitchen items. Afterward, I'm going to lunch somewhere in the area - I don't know where yet. I'm open to suggestions. Perhaps Jerry's? Is Bari Foods too far to walk? We can figure this out.

Date is flexible if there is sufficient interest.

    Anyone?

That's so funny, a buddy and I have been doing that for years... Each December, we head over to NWC and then off to Goose Island for lunch then hit the fish market on our way back to getting our now razor sharp knives.
FWIW, Bari is kind of a long walk thru a junky area but given nice weather, not too bad. One issue would be that there are no places to eat your sub at Bari....

Tentatively, as my into-the-future-spyglass is a bit hazy these days, I'd like to join (though I suppose the state of my knives will horrify the pros there) I await further direction, more than happy to eat with friends anywhere.

Will this be after NWC's GNR nomination?

No GNR nomination for Northwestern Cutlery, yet. However, I think the matter of a Great Neighborhood Destination, as opposed to a Great Neighborhood Restaurant, has some merit. (Was it GAF or nr706 that brought this up at the last Evanston lunch?) Perhaps this could be reserved for great markets, farm stands, culinary stores, and those places that are unique and worth a visit by LTHers, but not exactly a restaurant. But this is a discussion, I presume, for another time and another area of the website.

I'd like to join. How about lunch at Paramount Room after? It's probably a 15 minute walk, and on the way to the blue line for those of us likely to be taking public transit

I've never been to the Paramount Room and for the now... it's at least GNR nomination worthy. Sounds like a good plan.

I'd be in for knives and Paramount (or wherever; Avec is just a few blocks, as are Meiji, Izumi, Publican, Otom, Sepia, just not sure what's open early for lunch) - this is a Thursday, ja?

In case it wasn't clear - I'm in - even with just a few crappy knives. It'd be fun to try the Paramount Room ...

One week away and we have a substantial group already. Let me count and see. Hmmm...

    One. <insert long pause> Two. <insert long pause> Three. <insert long pause> Four.

    Four.

Surely there must be others will dull knives and a hankering for lunch at the Paramount Room, eh?

Mike, I'm in - sorry I didn't confirm. I'm going to forget my knives and bring my kitchen shears, which my home grinder doesn't do a good job on.

No no no... even those who DO have to work on a weekday but choose to procrastinate and shove more important matters aside for a little while, like myself, are also welcome.

Turns out I will be working in Cicero on 11/6, and don't think I'll have enough of a lunch break to make it to the West Loop and back in time for this event. Too bad.

    Have fun all.

As much as I'd like to join you guys, I'll be at a funeral for a family member. Enjoy your sharp knives.

Mike...I hate to do this to you, but I'm more overloaded this week than I'd realized. My scissors will have to wait for another day - sorry.

Well, I'm sorry nr706 had to bow out for sad, personal reasons. As far as the rest of you, well... that happens. I'll still be there at 11:00, if Metra is on schedule.

    Hi Mike -

I'm still planning on being in for knife-sharpening, but am then must head back west for some GNR transactions and home-related errands. Thanks for posting the event and for your patience with all of the original responders this busy week.
