Any recommendations for or recent experiences at GNR-level eateries in this vicinity? No cuisine types restricted. Thanks.

    Spoon Thai.

I almost nominated Los Nopales for a GNR this year but didn't.

It would have made a good nomination. I almost nominated Nhu Lan, a Vietnamese bakery that makes terrific banh mi and Vietnamese snacks and is a few blocks west of that corner. I recommend it highly as well.

There's always the Chicago Brauhaus and Cafe Selmarie on Lincoln, right in the square.

This area is usually referred to as Lincoln Square.

In addition to the previous mentions, you've got Pannenkoeken Cafe for breakfast. And a block or two south of there on Lincoln are Fiddlehead Cafe, Tallulah, and Bistro Campagne.

As for recent experiences, earlier this year I ate at Pannenkoeken Cafe, and frankly, I was underwhelmed. I ate brunch at Bistro Campagne a couple of weeks ago and it was very good; I particularly enjoyed the ability to follow traditional breakfast entrees with the assortment of French desserts (pot de creme!).

The Brauhaus quality is nowhere near GNR award winner Laschetts, but that doesn't stop me from loving it completely. The 'bread' may not be great, but the 'circuses' portion is awesome.

Go see Gody, if nothing else.

Oh, I forgot Jury's and Essence of India, a little further south from the Square but still in the area. Both are closer to Montrose.

Opart Thai is a personal favorite - Western just south of Leland. I actually prefer it to board favorite Spoon. Costello's has decent sandwiches - Lincoln right near the el tracks.

    Almost?

Rosded on Lealand just east of Western, where Lincoln turns, is a favorite as well.

Almost nominated as a GNR, yes, in reply to whiskeybent's statement that he almost nominated Los Nopales. Perhaps I should have. I feel that it is as deserving as many current GNRs. I think I doubted my ability to give it a proper write-up. I definitely nominate it as one of the worthier places to get a bite in the Lincoln Square area though.

To close the loop, we headed north of this intersection to Devon, and am pleased to report delicious dining at Khan's. Chicken boti (charred goodness) and frontier rice (is caradmom the key?). Garlic naan and paratha, the latter a tad oily but preferable to the naan. And the dill/curry yogurt (?) to start. All flavorful to the extent that this could be a once a week place without hesitation. Would like to try broasteds and other menu items also.

I'm not sure what a GNR is, but I live in Lincoln Square, and there are a couple places being missed.

Semiramis which is a favorite of mine for a quick, delicious, healthy, and inexpensive meal.

Noon-O-Kabob- Middle Eastern food like Semiramis, but totally different. The best Lamb Shank in Chicago by far

GNRs are Great Neighborhood Restaurants (see this thread for the list.) You are not alone in liking Semiramis -- it is a GNR!
