Fluky's is now down to just its stand inside the Niles Wal-Mart. The Buffalo Grove location is gone.

A couple of things I have noticed in the past week:

Zed 451 in Schaumburg has closed.

Woodfire Pizzeria, on Randall in Algonquin, was closed yesterday when I was car-shopping nearby. (A google search confirmed they closed a couple of weeks ago.)

Story on Crain's Web Site: Gourmet grocer Fox & Obel and trendy surf-wear retailer Billabong are dropping plans for stores in the former Carson Pirie Scott & Co. building on State Street.

That news definitely does not make my day;I was really looking forward to Fox and Obel being steps away for lunch and a go to place to pick up something quick for dinner.

Anyone remember River Kwai II? It was a late night thai place on belmont staffed by two guys (one taking orders, the other cooking.) Fantastic hole in the wall food, although my very pleasant memories of the food there are all from before my introduction to more authentic thai cuisine.

Anyway, same location - new place called the "Late Nite Thai Place" or something similar. Anyone with any insight? Same guys, different guys? It is only open from 9pm to 5 am, so it may be a while before I try it...

I saw a coming soon sign for Brookhaven Marketplace in the old Bobak's/Farm Fresh store in Burr Ridge. That should be a nice addition to the neighborhood. I've always been a big fan of their Darien location.

El Sueno, the eclectic Mexican place in the old Burger King on Milwaukee, in Glenview next to Pita Inn, seems to have closed.

The windows were papered over this morning when I drove by on my way to work.

Antica Pizzeria has recently opened in Andersonville. More wood-fired oven goodness, with some pastas too. I'm going tonight & excited to see how it is!

City Noor Kabob had some of the window paper removed and people at work on a bright interior when we drove past early Thursday afternoon.

The Egg Factory, a rather forgettable breakfast spot at Randhurst Mall in Mount Prospect, has closed. Since they were in an outbuilding near other businesses scheduled to remain open through Randhurst's makeover into a mixed-use development, I assume the closing is for other reasons.

There's a new place called Teddyfabz that is where Zippy's was in Deerfield.
Haven't been there.

I suspect that it was because the food wasn't very good.

I looked in the window today. They appear to be done for good. The signage in the front window has been partially removed and is sitting on a table in the dining room.. The quality had really fallen there in recent history and the employees just didn't seem to care anymore.

Koryo has been replaced by Hiro's Cafe, a sushi "cafe". It was either a quick turnkey or management is trying a new concept. There is good sushi in the neighborhood. They will have to execute much better in the new concept than they did in the former concept.

According to Maysoun, this is work undertaken by the landlord and is not going to be a resurrection of the restaurant.

Maybe the Evanston Lunch Group can do a reconnaissance mission after lunch today and report back.

Your wish is my command - apparently today was their grand opening, and my first guess appears to be correct: American breakfast and traditional Mexican food. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a takeout menu for further detail; neither of the proprieters spoke much English but from what I could gather, he'd sent their daughter to put it together or have it copied and she wasn't back yet. It does look promising, though.

Still, there is some kind of twilight-zone appeal to the idea of a Chevy's Restaurante y Cantina or a Chili's on that stretch of Clark...not that I would eat there

Sun Wah has reopened for business after a 1-day suspension by the Health Department, as evidenced by the soy sauce chicken rice nestled snugly amongst my groceries. Don't know if this has been reported yet on the board, but like the old-school Cantonese restaurant they are, they offer free cup of soup to favored customers. It's nothing much -- basically mustard greens in chicken broth, but tonight, for the first time I can remember, they were out.
