Please feel free to join us for the $3.95 lunch special of the gods at Spring World this Tuesday, 11/11, at 11:30 AM. This will also serve as the final GNR award delivery of the season, since they weren't able to join us for the ceremony and the owners have been out of town since. I'm sure cold sesame noodles and other delectables will also be forthcoming!

Sparky has a day off school, so we're in for 2!

Wow, that was a lot of food.

Pics forthcoming. Thanks for the wonderful company, and congrats to this fine restaurant on the GNR.

Well, besides hitting every light between Evanston and Chinatown, I also didn't pay attention to the actual scheduled time of the lunch, which would explain my staggering lateness. However, it was great to see y'all and nibble off your plates, which gave me a chance to sample some of the appetizers (the chengdu dumplings were really good) Even better, when Sparky and I peeled off to our own table, the waitress (who was the same one we had last time) didn't even blink when I ordered tripe, bean sprouts, tofu and garlic chicken. Well, she blinked and double-checked, but she didn't argue with me. It was spectacularly delicious - kind of like bacon, with big medusa-like black mushrooms. Yum.

Sparky got points for eating the tofu and bean sprouts (the chicken was deemed "too spicy," though he ate peapods and tripe) and I think the restaurant was glad to have us. We followed up with a bubble tea at Joy Yee's, and a tour of the various marine life in the groceries while we picked up fixins for California Rolls for dinner. Both the market in the mall and the one across the street had live shrimp, which neither of us had ever seen before (outside of the Shedd.)

As promised... the pics! It was a wonderful lunch as always. I didn't take pics of each person's individual lunch special orders, although everyone did order one. We passed them all around anyway (although I ate more than my share of the Kung Pao I ordered... I can' help it!). The other highlight of lunch, besides the food and conversation, was that Spring World was a busy as I have seen it today with no empty tables at noon. I wish them more of the same in that regard!

Better than the usual Daily Soup (typically the only low point of a Spring World lunch)

New to me and excellent Smoked Beef Sichuan Style (hot app)
    Image

Tea Smoked Duck (Normally very good but seemed any pieces without significant fat were dry... could have been called "Duck Pounded into Submission"... unusual flop on a typically great dish)
    Image

Dragon Wantons (not to be confused with...)
    Image

    Chengdu Dumplings
    Image

Yunnan Ribs (one of the highlights for me... deep fried ribs and chile...)

Also want to give a shout-out to chinkyeeboy and family, somewhere in the background of my pic, who saw us giving the GNR and came over to say hello. Always a pleasure to run into other LTHers when you're having a meal.

....and  (fortunately for me, the 'spouse never remembers the anniversary, either, so we are doghouse-free as long as LTH continues to be forgiving)
    :D
