    Sweet Thang changed ownership? http://www.sweetthangcakes.com/about.htm

Just curious if anyone knows anything else about this or the new owners. I'm a little wary when a favorite place gets a new owner. I guess as long as they don't mess around with the recipes...

I didn't know this! Thanks! I think this is where the best Tres Leches was, in little individual cups. Maybe not. Either way, it was a good bakery. I'll just have to stop by and check it out.

Anyone know any more specifics on when the Roscoe Village store is slated to open?

I don't have info on the Roscoe Village location but, as I also posted in the Openings thread, there are signs up for a location at Lawrence and Damen. It looks as if they are currently working on this space, as there are already bakery racks inside and the lights were on for construction work this morning.

Yeah, so this pretty much sucks now.

About the only thing that remains is the name. The small cozy space and charming decor of the old place have morphed into an elongated, sterile coffee shop. (Ooh, Wi-Fi!) The Algerian(?) lady who'd talk French to you if she was in a good mood has been replaced by generic (though friendly enough) hipsters. Prices are now ridiculous.

If you're gonna charge me $3 for some danish-like thing, you'd better make sure it's not two days old. Chocolatine was mediocre and equally overpriced.

    Bleh.

I just visited on Friday, since its now literally a few hundred yards from my house, and I found the Croissants to be as great as ever. I agree whole-heartedly about the space though, and I miss her, too.

Good to hear; maybe I'll give it another shot in a while. Prices are way up though, aren't they?

Yes, the prices have gone up there as they have in most places. I asked the young lady for a Turkey Croissant and a Ham Croissant and if I recall she charged me around $5.00 with tax. I thought that was a bargain until I got home to heat them up and only found a Turkey Croissant. It was delicious, but yes, significantly more expensive.

This is thread hijack big time, but if delicious croisants and danish you seek; the baked goods at Marion Street Cheese Market in OP are by far the best I have had in the Chicago area.

I stopped by Sweet Thang on Monday, only to see their hours of operations sign which said they were closed Mondays  . However, I've driven by every day this week, and from what I can see, they're closed Tuesday through Thursday as well. Phone calls direct you to a full voice mail system. I pray that they're not shutting this location down, so soon after moving in. While it wasn't as good as when it was on North Avenue, the place still had really good croissants and quiche, especially for the area. Obviously this recession is going to be bad news for foodies. Roscoe Village is nowhere near as busy as it was this time last year.
