Thanks again for the heads up! Was able to find it and stock up: Chimay Blue for $8.99 a bottle.

I think this season's good olive oil has come and gone, at least at Oak Brook it has.

I believe my last bottle had a production date of November. I don't think they really hit the shelves until Dec or so. My sister has been checking her location too, and still nothing yet.

I specifically looked for it at the Orland store last Sunday. Not a sign of it yet.

The latest, for all the coffee table cook book addicts out there.

    A day at el Bulli.

The perfect compliment to the Alinea book. A quite fascinating and beautifully presented tome that brings to light the extremes taken to organize the process of serving 30 course meals. Only downside might be a few too many pictures of a stoic Ferran Adria staring off in deep concentration while considering the menu, tasting a beet, etc.

Both in stock today at Clybourn Costco.

Or in fact, available every day on Amazon for about the same price. But what's the fun in that...

Plus, some nice looking veal loin chops which will be grilled up with rosemay and garlic tomorrow night.

Illy coffee for sale as well.

Haven't had the pre-made falafel, but I have been on the eating end of Costco's pre-made sushi platters that come from a company in California and, while not at the fool me once, shame on you level of egregiousness of McFib, are not high on the delicious for your dollar scale.

    Enjoy,

Was at the Clyborne location yesterday and the King Crab legs looked and smelled especially good. The whole area was light up with a sweet ocean-y smell that good seafood has. I would have bought some but I had other plans last night. I'll be back to get some this week.

Was doing the Costco sample buffet free lunch yesterday and tried these served with a dolop of tzatziki. Bleurgh. I spit it out.

What was I thinking, anyway? Microwaved falafel? Yuck.

An excellent deal, I've bought the Costco chanterelles twice, but a very thorough cleaning is in order. First time I only brushed with a damp paper towel and there was a lot of grit remaining. A rinse, or even a quick soak, may be in order.

Eventhough you sing about figgy pudding in December, fresh figs are not in season. You can usually reliably find fresh figs (from California) here from July-September. Sometimes June and October offer up a few, but its a gamble.

Nope. Definitely Le Crueset. I could have been wrong about the capacity due to small print on the tag, but it's the same big oval one that I already own. Could have sworn it was 8 qt.

    Follow-up:

I just got home from work and dug out my oval Le Crueset. It turns out the one I have is, indeed, a 6.75 quart size and is the same one offered at Costco.

But they do offer an 8 qt one on occasion at Costco. Companies often make sizes, colors or models specifically for these warehouse stores. I know the guy who used to be the M&M/Mars liaison/sales guy for Walmart/Sam's Club who described how they would customize products.

I bought an 8 quart oval Le Creuset last year at Costco--can't remember offhand the price, but it was a good deal.

I heard they're building a new Costco on Ashland, south of Roosevelt Road. It would seem to make sense because of the burgeoning residential middle class in the area. Has anyone else heard this or driven by the area and seen signs of this? I know they were supposed to build a new Police Station on the lot, but decided to move it farther West. If true, it would definitely be a welcome addition to the UIC community.

Hmm, that'd be quite the convenient location for us. I'm guessing in the lot south of the strip mall the Jewel is in?

I haven't been by in a week or two, so I can't verify anything.

Does Costco sell puff pastry dough? It seems to me that Jewel's is the only store that carries this (can't find it at Dominick's, at least not in my tiny local store).

If you want mass quantities, GFS Marketplace probably has it. At least they used to, as I've bought it there before, but not for a while.
