Trader Joe's is finally "coming soon" to Oak Park, according to the company's website. Anyone have any other intel on size, opening date, setbacks, etc.?

Glad as I am (more or less) to hear that Trader Joe's is coming (be good to have some competitor to Whole Foods), it's now just a little anticlimactic as this store has been in discussion ad infinitum (Oak Park-style) for some time.

I'd be surprised if much more is known beyond what you linked to, but thanks for the update on this continuing saga.

I e-mailed them to ask if they had an opening date set. They replied saying that they do not have a firm date set, but they are aiming for October 2008.

I'm sure the Village of Oak Park will do its best to make it months later.

Why recently shopping at the LaGrange Trader Joes, the manager told me the new one in Oak Park will open sometime 1st Quarter 2009. Hopefully in mid-January.

Oh no!! If TJs thinks they are going to open in mid-January, that means the Village won't let them open until at least March, which realistically means something like May.

So basically the store will open only four short years after it was announced, awesome!

You do realize that by mentioning "May" in your post, that it means the village can delay until next September right?

Oh, crap! By mentioning September, it won't open until Dec... Crap! Ok. 2010. Er, 2013. Forget it. The Bene Gesserit are going to be in power by the time we have our TJ.

I was in the TJ in La Grange over the weekend and the lady checking me out was saying that there have been a lot of 'construction' hold ups on the OP location and they were told 'expect it sometime after the first of the year'.

I guess that's the gossip over at their store right now.
One Mint Julep was the cause of it all.

Happened to have a few extra minutes last night and happened to driving by (shelves in the store are well stocked) and as I approached the closed driveway a security guard leaving the facility.

When asked about the opening date he first mentioned Dec 7th but as I was driving away he shouted the 5th.

Sounds like they are on track.

We received a postcard in the mail with an offer of a free TJ's reusable bag and it said they open December 5th.

Its official. I heard one of their radio commercials today and at the end they said to be sure and visit the newest location in Oak Park opening on Dec 5.

    Glad the wait is over!!

A store usually does a "soft" opening, opens a day or so before it is officially open so they can work the kinks out, make sure the registers work etc..

I was there at opening today, just because it made sense, timing-wise. Pretty nuts, of course, but the staff and customers were in great spirits. It's a lot smaller/tighter than the TJs in LaGrange, and it will take some time to get used to the layout, but boy am I glad it's there. I predict the place will do gangbusters, especially since it's right by the green line, too.

Anyway, there's no single store around here where I can get all my shopping done, so it's great to have the TJs, Whole Foods and a nice Jewel all within a half mile of the same intersection. Now if only Caputo's were a little closer ...

Thanks for the report! I was waiting for someone who braved the grand opening to give us some feedback. I also expected it to be/feel smaller than LaGrange -- it is on a lot tighter plot of real estate. But I am thrilled that I no longer have to travel so far to get my yogurt, Mediterranean feta, sun-dried tomatoes, crackers, frozen green beans, pizza dough, guacamole, etc. ...

My Bride and I will be stopping by tomorrow for a look see.

Maybe they will have a few samples on hand. :) Always enjoyed the 'Cup 'o Joe' of the day. She a nice slice of cheese.

If we can get in and out in an hour it will be free parking. Always a plus in Oak Park.
