Not necessarily. The Glenn's Diner ep, according to the Food Network sked for DD&D, will not be shown again until December 22.

The description is off. My DVR recorded this episode and I just watched it. It is described this way:
Guy Fieri uncovers joints doin' things their own unique way; Near Salt Lake City, a retro joint makin' Mexican specialties like shark tacos; in Chicago, a diner doing fresh seafood 16 different ways; and in Omaha, a chef from Montreal is doing the Canadian take on Jewish deli.

The bolded segment did not appear in this episode. The other two did, along with a place called Modern Cafe in Minneapolis.

    Best,

I TiVoed this from Monday night as well. I watched the opening segment and did not hear a mention of Chicago, so I deleted it w/o even watching it.

Actually, that Salt Lake City Mexican joint looked surprisingly good as well. Who'd have thunk?

Yeah. While we were watching it, I said a sentence to cookie that I'm sure I've never said before:

"Do you want to fly to Utah for some carne adobado and shrimp burritos?"

Actually there is a fairly large Mexican population in Salt Lake City. The Mormons were active in setting up colonies in Mexico and were quite open to Mexican immigration to Utah.

Yeah, relatively speaking. But there's not much of anything in SLC, including population. By far, the best places to eat tend to be Mexican, but they are few. The Red Iguana is quite good, and a favorite of Extramsg, aka Nick of Kenny and Zuke's. I was there not too long ago, and it has gotten better I think. And they have beer.

Still, most of the more serious eats are out at the resorts.

Well, I'm definitely to blame for the misinformation in my post above, because now I remember actually watching Monday night's episode (sans Glenn's, of course). The funny thing is that my wife said the same thing as Michael -- "Do you want to go to Salt Lake City this weekend for some Mexican food?" I have to hand it to the producers in that they do a very good job of making the viewer salivate. It will be interesting when we start seeing quite a few of our local places on here to get a better since of how these places are portrayed on the show.

I think Fieri does a bang-up job with this show. Customary Dining Companion, a non-Food Network watcher, both watches AND TiVo's this show faithfully, as he travels a lot and loves offbeat non-chain places, and it's never failed either of us yet.

I'm looking forward to his reaction to the Glenn's ep, as a close friend of his bad-mouthed the place - too fish-y, too expensive, etc. - and consequently, I've never been able to get him in there. Keep Hope Alive! :D

I'm looking forward to this episode, too. It will be very interesting to see how they present Glenn's since it's much more of a formal restaurant than the type of place they usually feature. It says "diner" in the name, but that's as far as the dinerness of Glenn's goes.

Just caugh an episode of the 3 D focusing on turkey. I was captivated. How time appropriate! The best (looking) turkey being served was just baked turkey...not even salt and pepper on it. Anybody else see this episode?

We were at Glenn's last night to celebrate a birthday and it happened to be the broadcast of their spot on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. They had the TV blasting and offered free shrimp and free screwdrivers (the drink, not the tool) to all of the diners to celebrate. It was fun to watch the show and to see the same fish entrees we ordered that night (sturgeon with mushroom/bacon sauce and Southern-fried catfish with shrimp and cornbread stuffing) featured in the clip. This makes me eager for the rockin' party I'm hoping will accompany the Weiner and Still Champion broadcast in January :D .

    ***DD&D MARATHON ALERT***

On Friday, The Food Network will run a marathon of DD&D shows, including the recent "Best Of..." and "Guy's Family Thanksgiving" specials.

IIRC, it starts early afternoon and runs into the evening.

Except that there weren't any populations of "Mexicans" in Utah in 1848. Just because someone claims a territory for Spain and later Mexico doesn't mean anyone actually lived there, apart from various native american peoples who'd been there for centuries. There were a couple missions bent on converting various Utes and Navajos to christianity but no settlements were established until the advent of the Mormons in 1847. A couple of expeditions from Mexico were sent to explore, mostly to find an overland route to California. For example, Dominguez and Escalante:

    http://historytogo.utah.gov/utah_chapte ... ition.html

It's not like the Gadsden Purchase where there actually were people living there who suddenly found themselves in a new country.

Sorry, you pushed my history button.

I have been to Smoque and Paradise Pup, Went to a Hackneys (but not the one Guy visited), liked Smoque quite a bit actually. I didn't think the burger had much flavor on its own but the bun was great. Paradise Pup was right near where I used to live in Des Plaines, but I never went there. I visited it several times after it was on the show, I liked it OK, but I have actually had better burgers at Buona Beef. The buns hold up better, and the sandwich is every bit as good. It's really nice because with a senior card you get a free drink, and that makes the double cheeseburger less than $5 with the drink! I am also ashamed to say I have developed a taste for the Deluxe Double Cheese Butterburger at Culver's.

However I have never had a burger here in Chicago that I like better than the Lotta Burger I used to get at Jim's Burger Haven in Denver Colorado. a full 6 inch across bun with meat hanging over the side, up to 4 patties, vegies, dressed as you want. Thy also have a real wide variety of milkshakes. There are 5 places that used to be called Jim's owned by the same guy, now he has two of them, one closed and the other two are owned by former employees. If you are in Denver, go to 3rd and Federal for the original, 44th and Benton (near Sheridan) for the updated original, and the modern one in Thornton on 88th street. You will not be disappointed.

I want to go to Gailwood Cook Shack, the meatloaf sandwich looked great on the show. I'll let you know wen I find it :)

If it aired already, I can guarantee someone here would have said something. Has Gus tried contacting anyone from the show? Sometimes you have to give fate a little push.
