Quail Eggs?

Anyone out there el accessable selling quail eggs? I need to poach about a half dozen of them for a dish I'm screwing around with.

I've purchased them in the past at Fox & Obel -- exit at Grand stop and both the trolley and Illinois bus run rather frequently.

It's probably worth noting that there are two Grand stops; the one on the Red Line (not the Blue Line) is closer and offers the trolley, while the Blue Line would necessitate taking a 65 bus. I was in Fox & Obel yesterday evening and they had several containers of quail eggs; the price was $9.99 per dozen.

Most "Asian" markets have them readily available as well; Try Chinatown, Argyle, H-Mart, any of the markets in the 'burbs.

Quail eggs at H-Mart are $1.99 for 10 eggs. I bought them to make breakfast amusing for my 5-year-old niece. "Little eggs for little girls," though I suspect I will be corrected that she's a big girl now.

It's been a few years since I've been there, but the live poultry place on Western, just off Devon used to always have quail eggs.

Captain Porky's in Zion not only has quail, they have duck eggs, too. I suggest calling in advance to guarantee they are present when you need them.

Yup, I was horrified when I heard the original price - I often get them for holidays for various different uses (teeny-tiny deviled eggs, garnish for salads, etc.) but passed them up at Marketplace on Oakton when they were $5.99 for 10. It's not as though they are really that different from chicken eggs (except for the size and the cute shell)

Hi Jim...it's an excellent price! I couldn't remember how much I paid but I remember it was far lower than many of the "other" stores. Sometimes the smaller quail eggs work out perfectly.

Quail eggs are frequently used raw in Japanese as well as Korean cuisine because the process has not been contaminated with salmonella. We use them from Mitsuwa and H-Mart and have never had a problem with these sources. I would be hesitant about other sources because you don't know what their throughput is.-Dick

I miss quail eggs - always available cheaply in grocery stores in Santiago. A real devil , though, ha ha, to devil!

Morse Market (practically next door to the Morse red line stop) has quail eggs.
