My brother-in-law put this on his Christmas list. I did a search for "smoked fish" in this forum and the consensus choice seems to be Renee Gourmet. Only thing is they're closed for a bit.

Does anywhere on the loop have a decent selection? What about near Milwaukee/Belmont?

Semi-urgent as I'm supposed to leave town tonight. Thanks.

If you're leaving town by the Skyway or thereabouts, there's always Calumet Fisheries. (No guarantee they're open and so on.)

Downtown(ish) Fox & Obel should be able to hook you up, abet on the pricey side.

NW side, I gotta imagine that about any decent Polish market will have smoked fish, as I believe fish is de rigeur for Christmas Eve. Andy's on Milwaukee or Avenues might be good places. Kolatek's has outstanding, house smoked fishes always on Fridays, but perhaps because of the holiday will have it earlier.

Three Sisters on Devon is another option.

Garden Fresh Markets have a decent selection of commercial-level, Russian-style smoked fish, most of them cryovacked, which is convenient for travel. Here's a link to a list of their locations.

At Zier's Prime Meats in Wilmette, Dave Zier hot-smokes the salmon himself. It's terrific.
