Kalinowski's was originally on Milwaukee Avenue in Gladstone Park. It was the first store sausage my family and relatives started buying after my Babcia passed. We were fortunate to have many years of her homemade stuff, smoked in a oil drum setup with a trenched offset pit in the ground.
The extended family is now, still devoted to Kalinowski's and they certainly aren't hurting for other loyal customers here. I like their smoked sausages just fine but they are of a coarser ground and fattier type. I also like other shops sausages but for me, variety is the spice of life. I think their kishka and double smoked bacon are terrific but how they sell their pierogi is beyond me.....dough is way to eggy and thick. They also have too many, less than homemade, deli salads. Nothing like seeing the kidney bean salad shovelled straight out of the food service container.
Bacik's has excellent pierogi. Never had their sausage. Many other Polish grocery stores and deli's in the Northwest suburbs carry the full line of Andy's/Mikolajczyk sausages and products.
