Thanks, jesteinf, for starting up this thread.

I don't think I ate at many new restaurants (newly opened in 2008) this year. Among the few:

Mixteco Grill (Chicago/North Center?) - liked it a lot
Takashi (Chicago/Wicker Park) - was disappointed

I'm not sure when these opened but they may have opened in 2008, but maybe were around before that:

Mundial Cocina Mestiza (Chicago/Pilsen) - liked it a lot, my best Mexican meal of the year
Big Jones (Chicago/Andersonville) - liked it a lot (for brunch)
Jesse's Mexican Grill (Chicago/Rogers Park) - liked it a lot, my go-to place for conventional Mexican food
Di Pescara (Northbrook) - just okay

To add insult to injury, Vettel appeared on WGN with Dean Richards this morning and said "next week I'm visiting two places that probably should have been on my top 10 list - The Publican and The Bristol. I just didn't make it to either in time."

What the foie kind of journalism is that? Do you really distrust your own list so much that any new places you visit could knock others off, or do you make a habit of prejudging restaurants before you go?

At least neither is in a hotel.

From what I've read here at least one of those places, possibly both, doesn't belong on any kind of top 10 list.
