    Hi,

Is the individual meat bits battered and fried or the whole dipped and fried? One never knows when it is conjured up by Gus.

Edit: Never mind, I just saw the pictures.

As promised we stopped by with some first time friends in tow.

What a feast! For the 5 of us we ordered 2 cheeseburgers, 1 hamburger, 1 - 1/3lb cheeseburger, 3 dipping dogs with assorted sauces, fried bacon and pickle chips, a lot of fries (some with chili and cheese). I think i tasted a little Cinnncinati in the chili?

Needless to say Gus made a lot of friends today. :)

Everything was in top form and the wing and tarter sauces worked especially well with the fried bacon.

A little too early for the fried chili and a little too full for the fried gyros. We had a large sack to take home.

    Awesome as usual. Thanks Gus!

I get world-class heartburn from regular gyros, which I love the taste of.

I would probably be hospitalized if I went the "country fried" route.

    YMMV

I've always thought this, myself - more so than the many faux "Cincinnati Chili" parlors around the country, though the texture is much more of a chili texture.

    Hi,

I have been hunting around looking for a viewing date announcement for Wiener's premiere on Diners, Drive-In and Dives. I am beginning to think I am confusing this with the Bourdain Show. If there is a known date for DDD's showing of Wiener and Still Champion, then please advise.

I was talking with the manager of Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket a few weeks ago (he was also featured this year) and he mentioned that the new season should start in February.

Either way I have been scrutinizing the listings and will continue to do so...

    I just checked...

"Something from Everywhere" Thin Crust Pizza from Chicago on 1-12 at 9pm
The listings lack detail from the 13th on.

I know of a few of our favorites that were filmed during the last year...

    Wiener and Still Champion
    Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket
    Kuma's Corner (I think)

    Already shown...

    White Palace Grill
    Xni-Pec
    Honey One
    Cemitas Puebla

I am sure others can add to the lists. Maybe a separate thread?

He sure does. While I love my Dish Network satellite, there is something comforting about eating a cheddar burger and those fries, while straining to watch a static-affected feed of a 1981 episode of TJ Hooker. I finished the meal and stuck around to see the end of the show. It was gripping.

SPOILER - TJ Hooker solved the crime and got the bad guy at the end of the episode.

While I didn't make it out this weekend (it's a far drive from Indiana) I promise that I will soon.

It disturbs me a little that I thought "Hey. TJ Hooker didn't premiere until "82!" while reading the above post.

With really bad reception. Beyond that, Gus does not have a converter box and if he doesn't get one by February 18 the reception will change from mostly noise (snow) to all noise.

BTW: When did "rabbit ears" become "bunny ears"?

Just got back from my first visit to WASC. I opted for the falafel burger w/ fries and a dipping dog with the Argentine garlic and herb sauce. It's a good thing they don't call it a corn dog, because the dipping dog just doesn't compare to the frozen corn dogs other places serve. The batter was delicously sweet and crunchy, and I preferred eating it without the sauce because I thought it took away from the flavor of it. I think this has been mentioned before, but I wouldn't mind seeing some oil and vinegar based sauces, like a chimichurri style Argentine sauce. Being a huge fan of falafel I was excited to try this creative take on it. I thought the falafel itself was perfectly cooked with a nice crispy crust while maintaining a moist interior, however I could have used more spices in the falafel mixture. The bun seemed to overwhelm the falafel patty and I wish the tahini sauce was applied more liberally as I couldn't taste or see much of it. With all that sad, I still ate the whole thing :) and I think it's an inventive variation on falafel. As previously noted by everyone, the fries were awesome . . . perfectly crisp, well salted, and in my opinion comparable to those at Five Guys, as I'm pretty sure those are also fresh cut and doubled fried. I wanted to try a lot of the other items like the deep fried bacon, but I'll save that for next time. The pictures aren't great, as they're from my phone and I was too eager to eat before getting around to pics. You may notice a white sauce on my falafel burger, which is the Argentine dipping sauce I couldn't help but smearing on it.

Like the chicken-crack at Lao Sze Chuan, they're addictive. Like a bag of toaster-oven prepared mini pepperoni pizza rolls after a case of Old Style, you can't stop eating them. (Did I just say that outloud?)

Stopped by last week with the Evanstonians and after ordering the burgers on my previous visits I just had to make a meal out of the difficult to come by good corndogs. Also I had not tried their cheese fries yet.

    Image

Gus was in top form that day as everything was great (as usual)!

It is very hard to get corndogs that are not frozen, tasteless things. Even My Bride who usually does not eat them gave one a try and has since changed her opinion. :)

Some months ago, we were at WaSC and I asked Gus if he'd try making a dipping dog using a polish sausage -- he did, and although it was delicious, the casing and weight made it tough to eat. Since then, he's found a new polish+stick for the Big Dipper, and it should be on the menu in the next couple weeks.

I stopped by today to sample it and fill up on the other fried foods. If I do say so myself, the Big Dipper is pretty damned good.

No the name isn't taken as far as I know.

It was something like 'The Big Lebowski' (not the name but something odd). I didn't know what the name meant was until checking the menu.
