Recently the conversation turned to interestingly designed Chicago restaurants from the past. I remembered two that I used to enjoy somewhere on the near north side circa early-mid 80's. Junius was open late and had a deco interior. Nepanthe' had a wall of ties along w/the backs of the chairs in the same fashion. I had some wonderful times @ both but the rest fails me. It's still bugging me. Anyone?

I'm not letting this thread die. I forgot that my dear friend Mr T (ilapia) used to go to Junius with me. He remembers it on Wabash around Chestnut. He also said it was mid to late 70's, not late 70's early 80's. He liked the chili and the key lime pie. I liked the deco vibe and the late hrs.

Nepanthe' is still a wash. Long ago and many brain cells away.

Nepenthe was Chicago and Milwaukee. The front door had a round marquee also decorated with ties that dripped for hours after a rain.
    Cuban food, good ropa vieja.
Cuban food, and this restaurant, were pretty cutting edge then.

Okno on Milwaukee was an antecedent to Mod on Damen.

Do you remember 2210, Darkroom, Resto 22 (Michel Maloiseau), and Galans (Ukrainian food/disco) all in the same location 2210 Chicago in Ukie village?

I left in 86. None of those names seem familiar to me.
