This is super last minute but I'm going hiking tomorrow at Starved Rock for the day and we're going to be there during lunchtime. Does anyone know of a place nearby to grab a bite for lunch?

    Thanks in advance!

most of the well know places out there open @ 4:00 p.m. or after.

There are some spots as you go through downtown Utica that are passable(Duffys, Canal Port). I think food is available at the Starved Rock Lodge for lunch

Like I said the best spots in the area open later

    GNR - Cajun Connection - Utica @ 4:00 p.m.

    Ripps Chicken - Ladd @ 4:30 p.m.

    Monaris 101 - Peru

    hope this helps.

I would second Duffy's, usually where we end up at for drinks or some food when going to Starved Rock. Nothing to knock your socks off, but a cozy atmosphere and super convenient. Get a Moscow Mule.

Probably way fancier than you have in mind, but we had a very nice dinner at the Brightwood Inn, a B&B just down the road. We weren't expecting a lot and were very pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for the recs, we wound up not having time for a sit down so we just picked up food on the way there and back. I appreciate it though! The hike was amazing, so pretyt in the winter (or at least when it is 30+ degrees)!

Photos and crafts with Santa beckoned us out to the Starved Rock Lodge this past Sunday. I dont do the area around Utica and the lodge much, I just havent found much interesting food wise for me in Utica(other than Cajun Connection), weve done Duffy's and Canal Port, as well as Garzanellis and The Rootbeer Stand in Oglesby. Cajun COnnection is always rock solid, but not for this day.

I had heard of Skoog's and but not much about the food. Figured today was as good a day as any. Some wings, Jim Beam, and drafts while watching the football games was in order. Wings were ordered unbreaded, and plain(no sauce as I have a 5 y.o. who does not care for heat). Wings were really good, crisp skin, juicy, good sized. I also liked their house sauce, it seemed sriracha based to my taste buds with some garlic hints.

A $10.95 Friday bluegill and walleye fishfry caught my eye, I will be returning.

Early supper had Garzanellis Supper CLub in Oglesby written all over it(they open @ 3:00 on Sunday), a quick ride down Route 71 had us there quickly. I have visited here before and enjoyed their fried chicken and meal in general. I like the bar it has a large rounded almost clover leaf section that fills the bar room. $10 credit card minimum, barely got there with a shot of Jim Beam and a couple Miller Lites. Dinner was good as well, I tried there house garlic dressing and it was not a mayo based version, which I liked, and the garlic really brought some heat. Fried chicken was solid(another solid middle of the pack version, keep in mind middle of the pack out here is head and shoulders above anything you will get in Chicago or the burbs imho), served family style with ravs, and spaghetti as well as choice of potato, I think its like $11. Overall a nice laid back Sunday Supper and afternoon out by Starved Rock

Starved Rock's Main Dining Room has the best Pot Roast. For $8.75 you get....
Beef chuck roast slowly braised in aromatic vegetables and Signature Ale. Served with mashed
potatoes, gravy, and the vegetable of the day. I would highly recommend this!
