I was wondering how that place was after not hearing about it for a long time. I've stopped wondering now.

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while....so it came to mind as I was making Valentine's Day plans for me and the woman.

I did a search on LTH but apparently I wasn't diligent enough because I couldn't find this thread. So, after reading good reviews on metromix, the Reader, etc. I put in a reservation.

Now that I have gone through this thread, I feel like I made a mistake. Perhaps my $200 or whatever I will spend will be better off elsewhere.

Anyone want to convince me not to change reservations or suggest a better place at a similar price point??

    Thanks,

    M

My boss, who worked in Algeria and Morocco in the 1970s, swears by this place for special occasions. But upscale places there probably go heavy on the cream as well, so I'm not sure on the relevance of that data point.

I live in the neighborhood and will try :) I was there in December and the food was excellent. We certainly didn't have the "cream" issue. It was pretty creative and the desserts were outstanding; we'd go back for another special occasion.

That being said, this is not the greatest restaurant in the world. But it is certainly up to snuff when compared to restaurants at a similar price point. For me it's a matter of opinion; if you're going to eat at a restaurant, the food, service, timing, and company are all important. You won't regret eating at Aigre Doux and if everything is right, you might even love it.

According to Grub Street Chicago, Aigre Doux is closing immediately. From the resto's publicist:

It is with heartfelt sadness that Aigre Doux Restaurant - the River North restaurant owned by famed husband and wife cooking duo Mohammad Islam and Malika Ameen - will be closing its doors immediately. After much soul searching, especially following suffering the devastating loss of Malika’s father this past spring, Malika and Mohammad have decided to refocus their energy on their family, which includes their three young boys.
