I'd sooner take the same amount of money I would spend for one meal at a hideous place like TGI Fridays and buy two meals at a nice, ethnic mom & pop type place that serves food with both flavor and a soul.

    SteveZ,

I would probably do the same thing, but the supercilious tone is what throws new posters off. If you just removed a word or two, your point would still be made. Note the word 'hideous' in your post. Take it out and you state the same thing without coming off as insulting.

I stand by hidious. That's how I feel aobut that place and others of its ilk. BTW, unless your name is TGI Friday, you've no reason to be offended.

I should have added when I linked the correction above:

I kind of like TGIF. I was even forced to eat at one in Moscow in 2001 and, beyond admiring the way it looks in the Cyrillic alphabet, thought the execution of the American dishes was even better than some of the locations here. It is what it is - relatively quick and cheap, good mudslides, potato skins, and they know how to work the deep fryer for your various sauced chicken pieces. Lots of variety - certainly freezer-to-heating implement stuff, but that doesn't stop us from buying frozen dumplings at the H-Mart or Katy's, so I refrain from sneering. I'll certainly take it over Denny's, Perkins, or Bakers Square. No, we're not the target demographic of any of these places, but the thought that our palates have evolved so completely beyond the point of even listening (doesn't your palate have ears?) when one of these chains is mentioned is disconcerting.

    Matt,

Among the multiple points in your post with which I disagree, at the top is the notion that over-topped, food-serve potato skins, fried, tasteless chicken pieces with sauce, and the rest of the crap on Fridays’ menu can be called "American food". That's exactly what Fridays’ marketers would like us to believe, I'm sure. They've succeeded to far too great an extent, which is precisely why I encourage all scorn and ridicule that is levied in the direction of TGI Fridays (not, of course, at the people who post here because they have understandably succumbed to the multibillion dollar marketing effort).

(I realize that you called it American food only in the context of a person visiting Moscow, and that your palate is worldly and excellent)

So who wants to meet for a free breakfast at Denny's tomorrow morning?

On that note this thread comes to an end.
