I was at Patty's for lunch on Monday and I was the only customer at 1:40. Patty mentioned that they have been very slow and are in real danger of closing. I plan on showing her some extra love by eating lunch there more often during the week. It would be nice if some other folks would do the same. If you're in the area, drop in for one of her daily specials, some breakfast or a great cooked-to-order burger.

    Mr. Z,

Good idea, how about meeting me at Patty's noon today (Thursday) for lunch at high noon. Anyone else in the area is free to join in for lunch.

    Enjoy,

I'm sure the others will chime in with pictures and descriptions - but let me start off with this: My. Favorite. Burger. Ever.

While I like other burger places for other reasons (customization, toppings, etc.) Patty's is tops in my heart for sheer beefiness, simplicity, and char. Patty's burger on her homemade bun is the reason why God made cows. With the fresh-cut hard-fried fries, it's as perfect a plate as you'll find anywhere.

I have to admit that over the past year or so, I've cut back a bit on my visits to Patty's because I'm trying to eat healthier and that can be a tough needle to thread at Patty's. That said, when I do feel like indulging, it's at the very top of my list. I think it's the archetypal diner and it satisfies in a way that few other places do. I'm sorry to hear that they are experiencing tough times. When I mentioned this thread to my wife, she suggested that we should temporarily sacrifice our cholesterol levels and head over to Patty's right away. I definitely agree with her and hope to stop in sometime this weekend.

    LTH,

With the shock to the system, and thankfully incorrect, report of Moon's Sandwich Shop closing it was slightly distressing to see a nearly empty Patty's diner at high noon on a Thursday.

Three deliciously charred med-rare burgers and picture perfect Chile Mac gladdened our hearts and stomachs on a cold Chicago noon. Great company, terrific food, reasonable prices, easy parking and Kermit the Frog manning, or is it frogging, the front door. What more could one wish for in a diner.

I had lunch there Tuesday for their homemade split pea soup, meatloaf, mashed potatoes & corn. Oh, and some fresh Hawaiian-style bread on the side. Really solid chow.

I've only been to Patty's maybe 5 times, all in the last 6 months, but she always remembers me & when she's not cookin' we have great conversations. She has a heart of gold. I'd really hate to see this one go down.

We threw our cholesterol to the wind (so to speak) and headed over to Patty's this morning for a simply outstanding breakfast . . .

When we arrived at about 10:45 the place was about 1/3 full but by 11:30, as were were leaving, they were completely full -- and it was great to see. This was as good as any breakfast I've ever had at Patty's. I really wish I could eat there more often. Tonight, I'll just double up on the lipitor! :D

A couple friends and I enjoyed a mid-morning breakfast at Patty's today. If I could get beyond two eggs over-easy, old potatoes and ham, I would, but I can't. Delicious as always. One friend was generous enough to allow me to sample her corned beef hash and it might hit the top of my next order. Only one table filled when we arrived at 9:30, but more people came in as we were finishing.

We arrived for brunch about 11:30am this morning, and all but one table was filled, though there were places at the counter. Everything was great as usual. When we left at 12:45pm, things were slowing down a bit, but there were still plenty of people.

For the old hands, I have a question about old potatoes: they are not listed on the menu, but having just looked at photos of them here, I ordered them. This is not what you get when you just ask for potatoes, as I recall. Anyone know the origin of old potatoes??

(And as always, thanks to LTHForum, I was happy to know how to order the best thing on or off the menu.)

Seems the few days Patty's business has picked up, which she told a friend of mine she partially attributes to the "call out" on LTHForum.

I made a trip here this morning around 8am (after I left the gym which pretty much negated the workout ), maybe around 1/3 full when I left. I do want to try some other things, but I can't get past the Hash (Corned Beef or Ham) with scrambled eggs and a biscuit/gravy side. I think this is the best CB hash that I have had, real chunks of corned beef and not run through the grinder or out of a can like most. Paulina Market's is a close second though. I did have the burger a couple of weeks ago and it was as great as the descriptions I have read on here. Hoping to drag my co-workers who are more attached to Sparky's some day this week. I heard Suzie talking to another customer that Sparky's may have the same concerns. Also Patty said something about a vacation later this month?

I'm embarressed to say that I've never been to Patty's. I lived in Skokie for 20 years until 2003 and honestly thought they were closed. How late are they open and is she on vacation yet? I was thinking about stopping by and doing a write up for both my website and NBCChicago.com. My heart still resides in Skokie, and I would hate to see another place on Main st close.

I don't think she's on vacation yet. They're open until 2:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday. On Sunday, they are open until 1:00 pm. Best to arrive no less than 30 minutes before they close, just in case, because they will close up early if it's really slow. Also best to call first regarding potential upcoming vacactions.

    LTH,

Wednesday turkey special, not photogenic though delicious does not always look pretty. Tender fresh roasted turkey on a bed of stuffing, creamy mashed with the occasional 'lump' letting you know it was made with elbow grease not from a carton and glistening rich pan gravy with a shimmering Fat is Flavor glow. $9 Turkey special includes Navy Bean Soup with chunks of ham, buttered house made bread and coffee.

This is a big plate of food, of the 4 adult males at the counter ordering the Turkey special only one finished and he looked ready for a nap.
