Thanks, GB, for the heart-warming thread and to the rest of you guys for the kind comments. Lucas is such a good boy and we're so proud of him, for a million different reasons, including the fact that he's such an open-minded and adventurous eater. When he recently asked a waiter if the lobster was fresh or frozen, I'll admit that I felt a surge of pride -- not only because he knew to ask but also because he was so self-possessed in doing so.
He's long been a fan of sushi and Japanese cuisine. When he was 10, he ate the entire omakase at
Sea Saw in Scottsdale, AZ. Sea Saw's chef, Nobuo Fukuda, was so impressed, he told Lucas that -- other than his own son -- Lucas was the youngest person to have ever done so. At the end of the meal, he presented Lucas with a hand-written scroll of the menu, which he signed. It's one of Lucas' treasured possessions. Since Lucas loves Japanese food so much, this past weekend, we took him to Katsu to celebrate. An account of the meal can be found
here. Of course, we don't care if he loves something or hates it. The only thing that matters -- and we preach it pretty heavily -- is that he try everything before making any judgment and that he keep an open mind. With the little ones, that's all you can really hope for. We have friends whose kids come over see a roast on the counter and ask what it is

Thanks again, for the nice comments. At this time next year, he'll be 13 and, from what I understand, officially eligible to open an account here at LTHForum. To say he's looking forward to it is quite an understatement.
