Does anyone happen to know where I can get disposable cake and/or cupcake boxes? Any suggestions within city limits would be most appreciated. I'm looking for something along the lines of these:

Sur La Table used to sell really nice-looking card stock cake boxes (with matching tissue paper, ribbons & tags...don't need this stuff though) at fairly reasonable prices, but for some reason they no longer carry them...my guess is so that you'll opt for a more expensive plastic cake box instead (I got suckered into that recently) ;)

    Thanks!

I was just at Joann (the craft store) on Elston on Saturday and they had the Wilton "Cupcake Heaven" boxes there (both the 4x and 1x sizes for sure, not sure about the 6x). They may have other brands/sizes as well, but they definitely had those in stock. I don't remember the exact pricing, but I recall thinking, oh, that's reasonable. If you go, be sure to do a quick internet search for a printable coupon first, as there is always one floating around out there.

Not only are you guys good, but you're on the same wavelength too - you both recommended the same product :) Since Joann is on the north side & Michaels towards the south side, this will work out well - I can hit whichever one I happen to be near.

Big thanks to both of you!

I've found boxes like that at the Container Store in the past, but it's been a few years, so I can't remember which sizes were available. There's one at North and Clybourn.

You are best off checking restaurant supply shops in the randolph/fulton corridor, specificaly:

    Alliance Paper and Food Service:

Avoid Container Store as they charge about a 10x markup on this stuff. The other craft stores are better, but still rather expensive.

    Best,

This was exactly the sort of info I was hoping for, before Pie Lady & mtyf clued me in to the craft stores. I do believe I'll swing by here first...if they sell stuff in smaller quantities, that'll be awesome. And if they only sell cupcake boxes by the gross, then the craft stores will be a great fall-back.

    Thanks!

Can you please report back after you visit Alliance Paper? I am also curious to know if they have an assortment of solid colored cupcake liners. I'd love to find a local source w/o having to order online. Thanks!

So you don't need a Tax-ID number or proof of working in food service to go to Alliance?

It looks like you need some sort of registration with them to use their online ordering, but their cash & carry is open to the public.

I'll keep you guys posted on Alliance...looks like it could be a handy place to keep in mind.
