My husband's boss (who is sort of a foodie) is hosting a group of 10 for a nice dinner on a Saturday at the end of April and has asked me for help in picking the restaurant. Everyone is coming in from out of town or suburbs and will be staying at gold coast area hotels, so I think close to that location would be good. I think he is looking for an upscale place but not uber-expensive. Here is the twist - he would like a round table so everyone can talk easier. Does anyone know of a restaurant that fits this criteria?
    Thanks!

    Hi,

Why not look for the restaurant you desire to eat, then ask them how they could accomodate your request? To look for the table configuration you want, then select the restaurant seems a bit backwards.

I was at a Chinese restaurant where they seated no more than 10 at the round table. They slapped together four 4-tops and put a portable lazy susan in the middle. It was a solution I never would have considered, but it worked beautifully. (I was about to add a 4-top to the round table for a really ackward solution. Thank goodness there are better ideas than mine out there!!!)

I agree with C2; pick a good restaurant, and then see if they have the geometrically appropriate seating equipment.

FYI, Little Three Happiness has round tables. So does Shaw's.

I hope next year when this unique question pops into your head again, you might find your old posts to add to instead of beginning it anew.

A great list for roundaphiles! There are many that were recommended here that aren't on the Chicago Mag list, so I'd say that spi245 is good for at least than 70 more years. I can't wait to hear about his/her odyssey.

See, that's an absurd query. Whereas, asking about restaurants where parties of 6-8 can be seated at round, rather than rectangular, tables isn't. Although I didn't post the query, I understand the validity of it. Round tables for a party of that size are much more conversation-friendly.

But when Chicago Magazine publishes a list of 65 restaurants that have 3-tined forks, I may have to reconsider! :)

To tell you the truth I had no recollection of asking that question a year ago. I have three little kids and most of the time remembering where I ate last week is a challenge. Thanks to all, especially for posting the Chicago Mag. article. By the way I believe I went to Bella Nolte last year. :)

It's tradition for the Chinese to eat at round tables, which is why all the places in Chinatown have them. As I was taught, it was a way to lessen the whole "head of table" syndrome. The other reason is that Chinese food is served family style and the round table makes it much easier for all people to get at the food in the middle (with a lazy susan).
