My birthday is coming up and I would like to be treated to an "old fashioned, retro" lobster dinner. You know, lobster tail, drawn butter, a salad, stuffed baked potato, etc. Or surf and turf. I love lobster.
    Does anyone have any recommendations?

Here are a few points I've considered:

-looking for lobster tail, not whole lobster
    -broiled not boiled
-not Supreme Lobster or Red Lobster
-not bits of Lobster that appears in a dish like ravioli or asian

I would say Bob Chinn' s if you don't want a whole lobster. They typically have a nice variety of tail sizes from several different types of lobsters. While the restaurant is not exactly traditional, you will at least get a very nice broiled lobster tail, and can get a salad (or salad bar), baked potato, etc.

    Toria,

Top tier steak house's such as Morton's or the Palm are an excellent choice for lobster tail, pricey, actually very pricey, but there's nothing like a big beautiful broiled tail overrunning a dinner plate to make one smile, unless its a perfectly steamed whole lobster with a side order of crisp hash browns.

For real Old School lobster tail charm, at a substantially lower price point, Sabatino's can't be beat. Pair all inclusive lobster tail with flaming Baked Alaska and you will be smiling at the very thought for days. If your special occasion falls on a Wednesday better yet, Wednesday is Lobster Tail Special at Sabatino's.

And Sabatino's has strolling musicians, can't forget the strolling musicians. :)

Old fashioned, retro, lobster, really sounds like Sabatino's to me, too.

Oh good these are some good ideas. I've been to Chinn's. Never been to Sabatino's and have wanted to go there. Been thinking Myron and Phil too. A little lobster, baked potato, salad, martini, Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra singing in the background............LOL

I haven't been in years, but I used to love Philander's in Oak Park for Lobster
    (and their warm asparagus salad..yum).

I forgot to add, there's a 3 piece jazz combo and a bar with "hard boiled egg" trees.
    Retro indeed.

Myron and Phil would fit the parameters, though I still recommend Sabatino's. Bob Chinn's, of which I am a fan, is more East Coast crab shack on steroids. Huge space, lots of bustle, most food served on beer trays and in and out fairly rapidly.

    Enjoy,
