    My recent trips to Irish pubs, including Chief O'Neill's on Sunday, made me question if Irish whiskey is available in strengths more than 80 proof.
    Today's Binny's ad led me to check their inventory for high proof Irish of which I found several.
    But one description of an 80 proof called out:

    Bushmills 16 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey

    "The smashing bouquet features delightful notes of toasted wheat bread, oatmeal, black raisins, trail mix, roasted chestnuts, bacon fat, sweet butter, ruby Port and prunes. Entry is peppery, moderately sweet and smoky; midpalate features succulent tastes of dark chocolate-covered cherries and strawberries, honey and smoked nuts. Finishes elegantly and clean, with deft traces of smoke and cocoa." 96-100 pts.

    Most is 80 proof, though there are a few out there that are higher- I know of a couple of 90 proof irish whiskies, and the Connemara single malt from Ireland hovers around 115-120 depending on which bottling you get.

    That's a beautiful idea, but these days, I can barely afford bacon, let alone Cote Rotie. (But I try to get the same effect by stirring a Slim Jim around in a glass of plain Cotes du Rhone.

    A bottle of Rauchbier is much cheaper, and much more bacon-y.
